The slightly cheaper Garmin is a great stopgap for those in remote locations, at least until Musk's Starlink phone service becomes operational (T-Mobile just signed an agreement). In the meantime, the iPhone 14 is the cheapest and easiest way for most occasional users to take advantage of what the technology offers.

Nobody is gonna point out the fact that the smaller, Safety subscription is actually a better deal than the Recreational one? If you send 40 texts with the Safety subscription you'll have to pay an overcharge of 0.5$ * 30 texts which is 15$. Add that to the 15$ subscription and the total is 30$, which is 5$ cheaper than the Recreational subscription.

garmin and inReach are at the end of life systems. At the next 2-3 years all the new smartphones iOS and Android will use at 100% satellites for SOS sms
