kevinmcmurtrie, 02 Oct 2022Why do you like phones with 10 year old storage options and... moreThe answer to why I want those features: Traveling, hiking, bicycling, working, and not being dependent on a constant Google connection.

No you don't. and why would you need a google connection that's some **** right there...

Offline maps, offline movies, offline music, offline Wikipedia, offline translation

offline maps sure. offline movies on your phone?, offline music sure, but you dont need a full 100 gbs for music and why are you using FLAC on a phone... google pixel does full offline translation at a high accuracy out of the box...

why are you backing up photos from your camera to your phone? this makes zero senses

Why should I waste my time screwing with that when I can throw it all on 1 TB of storage and have plenty of space to spare.

yeah, why would you not just carry a XX-TB drive with you if you need all this data, you answered your own question...

Are you allowed to stream music at work? Most offices recommend people don't stream anything because of the bandwidth consumed. Again, storage of music files fixes that.

not sure what kind of place you work at but yes, every office I have worked in has lets anyone stream almost anything that is not stolen. not sure what kind of 5th world internet your stuck on that you have people worried about bandwidth...

I'm always hearing people say "my earbuds are dead" or "I lost an earbud!"

thats cool again no one said go wireless... use a dongle WHICH YOU HAVE TO USE ANYWAYS IF YOU, MR I ONLY LISTEN TO FLAC FILES...

Google and Apple just want to you keep Bluetooth turned on so they get GUID lookups for indoor location service beacons. Did you know about those

    tinfoil hat much?

Oh, and I never have to carry a laptop on vacation. Screw all that bulk. I have a camera raw file editor, terminal app, word processor, backups of important documents, and a few hundred GB of free storage for anything I might need to keep. Maybe I bring a little HDMI adapter for the hotel TV to watch movies on a rest day.

again XX-TB storage drive... solves all this with NO bulk... you edit phones on your phone..., terminal app what's that 50 mbs? word processor, you are writing novels on your 6 inch phone now? using the on screen keyboard... backups of important docs yeah these are nice to have all 20 mbs of them... and you will have many many gbs of storage left on your phone and your storage device...

so again, mr no logic, mr i listen to FLAC with no dac or amp to power my cheap headphones, mr I need to back up my photos from my camera to my phone, mr i forgot they made storage that i could plug into tv's, phone's, computers...

keep that tinfoil hat on tight those Bluetooth signals might be listening.

Why do you like phones with 10 year old storage options and missing features that people would use daily if they could?

The answer to why I want those features: Traveling, hiking, bicycling, working, and not being dependent on a constant Google connection.

Offline maps, offline movies, offline music, offline Wikipedia, offline translation, and backups of my camera are on the phone for traveling. The camera uses 86 MB/photo or 12.6 MB/sec for video, my music is FLAC, and the maps (gigabytes each) are for OsmAnd. The English Wikipedia is about 90 GB. My e-mail app syncs in the background so it's always ready for use whether there's a cell signal or not.
That might be possible on a 256 GB phone but it requires careful shuffling and moving files while on fast WiFi. Maybe it's a place that has absolutely no fast Internet of any kind. Why should I waste my time screwing with that when I can throw it all on 1 TB of storage and have plenty of space to spare.

Are you allowed to stream music at work? Most offices recommend people don't stream anything because of the bandwidth consumed. Again, storage of music files fixes that.

I'm always hearing people say "my earbuds are dead" or "I lost an earbud!" and then they have to screw with a charging pod or crawl around on the floor. How is that an improvement over wired earbuds? Google and Apple just want to you keep Bluetooth turned on so they get GUID lookups for indoor location service beacons. Did you know about those? Maybe you should get an app that displays them. An urban area might have 50 in range at all times.

Oh, and I never have to carry a laptop on vacation. Screw all that bulk. I have a camera raw file editor, terminal app, word processor, backups of important documents, and a few hundred GB of free storage for anything I might need to keep. Does everybody need 1 TB and a headphone jack? Of course not. But some do and it's silly that phone after phone, especially the super expensive ones, keep coming out with reduced features and reduced options.

I have no need for a replaceable battery but I understand why some people do. With a replaceable battery, you put the phone to sleep, swap the battery, and wake it back up. That's 10 seconds to a full charge. Chinese phone companies keep bragging about faster and faster chargers so there are clearly people that need instant powerups. Why not offer it instead of making another boring featureless slab like a thousand others?

Buy hey, you can get your 200 megapixel 9x9 binned sensor behind a pinhole sized lens and feel like you've masted everything that a phone could possibly offer. I bet it surfs the web the BEST.

kevinmcmurtrie, 02 Oct 2022I'm not saying I need a microSd card. I'm saying ... moreIt's 2022 why do you need to charge your phone well you listen to music ? Batteries last long enough and charge fast enough that you can give your ears and brain a break from your shitty music. 3.5mm head phone jacks are a thing of the last when it comes to phones if you need extra storage but the phone with more storage over buy online cloud storage. The fact you think you need a SD card for all 100gbs of photos videos and other that you will collect over two years maybe three years is a joke. People come here and post the same crap over and over you ain't planning on buying shit. So stop commenting you want to use your shitty 7 years old phone all the power to you. But the ones of us that have the money and want to upgrade or just want a change. We want to see what others have to say not your dumb I want a reboot phone from 2009 crap

Anonymous, 01 Oct 2022That time is over...I'm not saying I need a microSd card. I'm saying I need storage. Phone storage capacities have been stagnant for years. 256GB max is just a web dumb terminal. Give me 1+ TB and I won't need a microSd slot.
I do need the headphone jack. Bluetooth and USB-C headphones are too much of an expensive mess. If it's on a 3.5mm jack, $80 comes close to the best performance technically possible. Bluetooth still has bandwidth, bass, and battery problems while costing 3x as much. USB-C headphones aren't common and they block charging.

              Amogus phones. Lol

                - no SD card slot
                - no headphone jack
                - no charger in box
dead on arrival for me. They copied all the worst tactics from the greediest mobile companies.

The one issue I heard the Pixel 6 had was reception. I heard from some people that it had some of the worst data reception of any smartphone they’ve ever used.
                      Maybe they were lemons?

Anonymous, 30 Sep 2022Which one?The Pixel 7a won't be released until next year and will apparently be very small like the Pixel 3a or Pixel 4a 4G.

The video is very careful to never show the top of the phone. I'm wondering if it has a headphone jack or microSd card. Google has some nice phones but 256GB max storage makes it useless for me.

Pixel 6 (T-Mobile variant) for only $199 at Best Buy. Crazy deal. It's tempting. I looked at the Pixel 7 and I don't really like any of the colors the way I feel about the Pixel 6 in sorta seafoam. I don't really need a Pixel 6. I'm extremely happy with my Razr 5G and Z Flip 3.

I find the Pixel 6 too tall and heavy. But why not for only $199? I still need to understand the requirements. I'm still paying for my Razr 5G and iPhone 12 mini I sold over a year ago. The 12 mini will be finished by next April. The Razr until next Sept. If I can add $8.33 to my current bill, I'll get it.

A Pixel 6 for only $199 is too good to be true. That's cheaper than a 6a and has a better display and build quality.
