I do think it's unlikely for Apple to bring back touch ID ever again, not just to the 15, but an early phase out.

No we won't, because touchless is always better and more effortless, Apple is so much ahead of the competition already with Face ID, they wouldn't go backwards. They will just keep improving face ID even more. It already works with masks and now it also works in landscape too.

maik80, 04 Oct 2022For what to use touch id if they have the face id the best ... moreIt has been said countless times FaceId not secure, and far less secure than touch ID, Or iris scanner for that matter. Brothers and sister that looks alike can open your phone. I won't buy any other iPhone until Touch Id comeback Usb-C had to be on iPhone since iPhone 11/12!
- Always-on display badly implemented and locked to iPhone 14!
- Dynamic island always putting a black bar between id camera components ridiculous especially in Video fullscreen. I even believe they reduced their dot mapping facial scan since masks !
iJunk 14 won't be good until iPhone 20

Thought i will update to 12 but I ... moreWhy are you saying sorry to apple? It is your choice when to upgrade. Upgrading every year is very bad for the planet as it will create more e-waste and junk.
Apple should be saying sorry to you for making you want to upgrade every year.

In a year or two the iphone SE is going to take on the design of the iphone mini series. Touch ID will be gone from everything except the ipad. Maybe in 5+ years we will finally see UD touch ID once the scanners are actually good enough.

It makes sense for:
- TouchID on iPhone
- FaceID on iPads
...but they gave us the opposite!
When you grab the iPad, its a large unit and you're facing the big display it should snap and unlock for you instantly. The larger size means you can put in the FaceID sensors without compromising the internals, and the ergonomic bezels means you don't have to cut into the display. It's more elegant than fiddling around with the thin-side and getting a fingerprint to scan.
Meanwhile, the iPhone should have a symmetrical design without any cutout of the screen. Perfect place to put the TouchID is on the back and embedded into the Apple Logo. That means it will unlock the device as you're pulling it out of your pocket or purse, and don't have to look at it first. The logo also gives free advertising for Apple, since cases and accessories will have to leave it open.
Moving on, the OS X can have both! TouchID can be embedded in the Top-Right corner of the Keyboard on the Magic Keyboard or Macbook. Whilst FaceID can be embedded nicely as a Selfie/Webcam for the iMac and MacBook Pro.
Going small, for accessories like the iWatch, iPod, AirPod Max, etc etc... well, I think it's hard to implement a touch or camera into it. You can get a biometric authentication using voice activation, as microphones are tiny and don't use much power. Stuff like AppleTag though will need Ye Good Olde trusty pincode, which is acceptable.

Iphone 11 pro user here
Thought i will update to 12 but I didn’t see any merit other than 5G,
Last year i thought iphone 13 will be good but nothing changed significantly
This year i was hoping lot more from iphone 14 but practically the same. I am excited about the dynamic island but my 11 pro is doing really well even after 3 years so i suppose iphone 15 it will be lol
Sorry for procrastinating Apple, i want to buy it just can’t find the time to go to your webpage also iphone 11 pro is still crushing everything i throw at it. Kudos to that.

I certainly wouldn't miss Apple's TouchID. While under-display scanners work with wet or dry fingers, TouchID does not. I don't need technology that does not work.
