10 October 2022
This follows a 15% year-on-year drop in Q2. However, the market is still above pre-pandemic levels. Also, the average selling price of PCs is falling from its recent peak.

Anonymous, 10 Oct 2022you guessed very well an rtx 2060 still can last long a... moreI got an Intel NUC 11 Enthusiast with Intel Core i7-1165G7, Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 Max-P, and two 16GB DDR4-3200 RAM stick. I have zero trouble playing high-end games and console emulators at high settings. I don't see the need to have it replaced anytime soon. It's still good for the next three or four or even five years to me.

Even with smartphones, a four-year-old flagship SoC is still more than enough. I have an LG V50 with Snapdragon 855 and a Huawei Mate 20 with Kirin 980, and they are still a solid performer in 2022. I even have no trouble running AetherSX2 PS2 emulator at full speed on both of them. Also, they got their own custom Desktop Mode flavour called Screen+ and EMUI Desktop respectively, which can let you use your phone as a PC. It's far from a true Windows machine replacement to me, but I definitely value that feature when I'm travelling light without my PC.

-Trix-, 10 Oct 2022” Looking at individual companies, Apple surged up 40.2% co... moreConsidering the fact that the sales in Q3-21 were half of nearest competitor, and Q1, Q2 of this year were about the same level as the above mentioned Q3/21, I would wait with celebrating until the end of the year. Total numbers may not seem that great.

” Looking at individual companies, Apple surged up 40.2% compared to the same period last year, the rest of the Top 5 companies were in decline. ”

Well done Apple, Apple huge mobile success starting to show in PC sales too.

A computer is not a smartphone that you replace every two or three years. It makes sense that sales dropped after a massive wave of purchases with the outbreak of the corona virus. Because there is a demand and even a requirement that almost every soul in the family unit has a computer. After this was answered, i.e., the family purchased computers for all members of the household, the replacement will only be in about 5 to 10 years. Most people are light users, so old and slow computers "do not threaten them", they will not rush to change to a new one. Only innovations or a technological breakthrough will cause the market to wake up.

Haven’t had a laptop/desktop in years. Nor do I have a printer. If I need something printed my mom does it at work. I’m a disabled NEET btw. I only have an iPhone 14 and AirPods Pro gen 1. If I ever did need computer functionality I’d get an iPad with a Magic Keyboard. Trad computers are obsolete

There is hardly a reason to upgrade. A 5 year old desktop/laptop still works fine. Only people who might upgrade are those who play games or use the GPU for professional work to make use of the latest graphic cards.
