13 October 2022
Xiaomi hasn't confirmed it officially yet, but a leaked draft announcement suggests that the move will be done by the end of this year.

more Google spyware...they got pressured to use google messaging etc already for acceptance into the EU market (who then go after Google etc for anti-competitive practices lol) what is so unique if they keep adopting Google nonsense-hopefully their non-global phones will retain their own apps

mkreku, 14 Oct 2022You can call it "rubbish" as much as you want, it... moreOk fine, taking back my words, its not rubbish, but automatic sending of photos and videos to around the world just for it to get back again, is not a very bright idea. A misuse of data and battery is what it is.
And quoting once in a blue moon incident to justify your opinion, you know that most people sync their pics/vids on PCs every week or so anyways?

I'm still prepared to accept cloud, but bigger problem is, companies are justifying removing microSD slots due to this, and that truly is rubbish.
Remember that both cloud and card slot can coexist, and I'm perfectly ok with both existing.

And to end it, MicroSD is amazingly, (un)believably practical when I update my phone, but hey, a 30 second memory card change doesn't even make a big story... so you get my message. ;)

Nextcloud if you want your own without limitations

Samath N8 808 owner, 14 Oct 2022I don't use it, won't ever use cloud rubbish. I c... moreYou can call it "rubbish" as much as you want, it only tells the rest of us what kind of person you are.

Let me give you an example: I was travelling through Africa for a month. When visiting Cape Town my phone was pickpocketed from me. When I got home it turned out that I had only lost 1 day of photos, the day of the theft. A month of photos, 500+ of them, had been silently uploaded to Xiaomi's cloud every night when the phone found wifi.

Without the "rubbish" cloud I would have lost every picture. With the cloud I lost one day, maybe 30 pictures.

The cloud is also amazingly practical every time I update my phone, but that's another story.

Good for trying but not much

I don't use it, won't ever use cloud rubbish. I currently own LG G8x with 512GB memory card, and I'm unaffected.
Will use it for 4-6 years if all goes ok, and saving up next for a Sony Xperia 5 phone which has a 3.5mm jack and memory card slot.

My sympathies to those who thought the cloud was theirs. One day even Google will shut down its free service.

rizki1, 13 Oct 2022Oh no, This is one of the reasons I keep using Xiaomi phone... moreSD card, USB drive, CD storage, DVD storage, google photos, one drive, tablet flash drive, PC hard or laptop hard drive. There's literally options for backing up files that would take up more than two hands to count them all on. I have had three Xiaomi phones and I didn't even know there was a Xiaomi back up because I wouldn't never used their adware infested apps. Great phones but I certainly won't miss their cloud service.

good riddance, 5gb was good for nothing, i won't miss it

Well It was actually a good service.

Meh, I like Xiaomi but nothing could get me to pay for more Xiaomi cloud storage.

I already pay for more storage via Google one, so there's no point in me paying for a redundant service. I get that some people are wary about Google, but it's well integrated enough that I'm willing to overlook the downsides(and I imagine there's at least some people who see things the same way)

Anonymous, 13 Oct 2022Man is everyone on this site a nihilist or something.Nah a lot of people are just more into this market and know if something is going to survive or not.

It’s more having a realistic attitude than that.

As a user of xiaomi, i just want to say that Xiaomi Cloud for Photos and Videos have a very poor quality.

I once switched off auto-sync but it still uploading my videos to the cloud. While it still uploading videos i dont want to keep.
And then my mi cloud full with unwanted pic and vids.

I once deleted some phone numbers in my Contact, but those number still there because they are sync to mi cloud Contacts. I cant delete those numbers, ive tried many ways.

And for changing data or setting, it ask me to enter my phone number for One-Time password verification. I entered my phone number correctly, but it sends the OTP to unknown number (the unknown number shown above the password field). So the process cannot be continued.

The xiaomi cloud is so fking seriously Trash .

Oh no, This is one of the reasons I keep using Xiaomi phones because I don't have to worry about files anymore, especially photos if I switch to another phone brand. Looks like I need a microSD now.
