It is a bit perplexing to see ignorant commentors talking about "Fast Charging" as a technological miracle without any downsides. Even when the downsides are clearly pointed out, their responses are not well thought out and does not take into account the reality.
Let us assume for a moment that a BBK/Xiaomi/Huawei branded phone has a superb battery which can withstand the fast charging for 800 cycles. What about the impact on the electronic components due to the heat generated in the rest of the phone? Battery alone does not make a phone, right? Are the other components inside a smartphone perform at the same level after many days of getting exposed to high amount of heat for which they were not designed for?
By introducting ultra fast charging in smartphones, the Android OEMs are just making sure that the phone will perform at adequate level for 1 or 2 years (warranty period) and not more than that. The phone would suffer various kind of failures due to the exposure to the sustained heat on a daily basis. To me, this is planned obsolescence.

You keep saying how your feelings say otherwise and here I'm telling you Li-ion chemistry hasn't miraculously changed. Batteries still degrade in exact same way they did 10 or 15 years ago. But I guess your feelings matter more than facts.

the hell with this degradation nonsense funy thing i still see a granma redmi note 2 or even redmi1s kicking without changing battery .
my point is just how high consumption/load your battery it will degrade even with charge at 5w
why blame the fast charging? when you the user using it without care even overheating on a game?

With my personal usage being the way it is, I couldn't care less about this stuff, even if fast charging DID degrade batteries significantly faster than normal charging. We haven't magically changed chemistry of Li-ion batteries. They behave exactly the same they did in the past. All the mumbo jumbo Oppo and Xiaomi were selling to clueless people with batteries that don't degrade at 3kW charge rates and have 1600 charge cycles are all BS. If it was so wonderful on that one model, how come they haven't adopted it on ALL their phones if it's so miraculous? Or license it to others? It's all BS marketing fluff and batteries degrade just the same. Also, I've ordered Poco X4 GT few days ago that has pretty fast charging, because I don't have intention to hold onto it for very long (unlike with iPhone) and won't care about battery wear. But I know for a fact that it will happen. So, spare me the "you're Apple fanboy hurr durr" nonsense.

No it's not right to charge at 10w and claim 800 cycle
But it's not right either to claim fast charging is just bad automatically without any nuance with HOW the fast charging is achieved
Until we have data of 200W etc and their respective cycles we cannot dismiss
And your still generalizing Xiaomi's fast charging approach keeps changing so 57 Celsius in what implementation are you talking about?

This is temperature phones get with playing heavy games like genshi.
Xiaomi phones are even worse, videos show them at 57 celsius.
My phone : 15W /29 celsius.
My tablet : 12W /25 celsius
So, according it is right to test at 10W and then claim battery can sustain 80% after 800 cycles while being charged at 80, 120, 150, 200W?
Qualcomm/Asus phones has 65W with single cell, by the way.

Any person scientific minded would know that we need to test at the higher rates to then make a logical conclusion
AND anyone scientific would have to control/account for all the different variables in fast charging

Is it dual cell or not
Is the Watts applied throughout the entire charge stages?

Read his post about it. Anyone with little chemistry/physics knowlwedge already knows more charging is bad. He did not even need to explain how it is being hidden from costumers.
My favorite part is when he says tests are performed at 10W, outside the phone.
