Samsung releases Camera Assistant app to give you more manual controls, updates Expert RAW

26 October 2022
The Assistant can speed up the shutter key, letting you capture 7 photos per second. It can also disable the automatic lens switching, soften images and more.

Nameless, 26 Oct 2022I bet it still applies HDR if you disable it. Only a little... moreIt doesnt apply HDR, but it applies multi-frame magic. Dynamic range is much much less on S23 Ultra (Auto HDR off) compared to my Sony full-frame A7RIII.

Expert Raw in my S22 ultra shoots blurry pictures in RAW mode, if you shot a RAW picture with the normal camera and compares it to Expert RAW you will see how blurry are the picture shot by Expert RAW, this never happen in my Canon, so it means that the RAW output of my phone is a tweaked RAW picture, basically a lie.

"This app also draws constellations and other celestial objects of interest, so you can take a photo of the Big Dipper even if you don’t know where it is on the night sky."

does it mean the star constellations are photoshop?

I personally wouldn't buy one because I have hardware needs as a consumer such as a headphone jack and card slot. Also, don't know if you realised but a lot of so called reviewers are really bad at tech. Average consumers don't exist, it's an umbrella term. When MKBHD says the S22 is good for the average consumer, all that's really saying is that yes, it's fast enough to open social media and watch YouTube without a hitch. Mobile processors have been overkill for 3-4 years now for that usage. Techies like to say that Sony phone cameras suck because they "HavE To AdJuSt sEttINgS", but really that's not very fair to Sony. Sony makes phones for creators. Creators are really gonna value a good solid manual mode. The cameras are not bad because they're targeted towards a specific audience, they're not trying to satisfy the folks who want to point camera at thing, get social media ready output. Also, as a final word, all cameras mess up sometimes. Some are more reliable than others. Also, they're constantly being improved with software updates. If you remember people went crazy over the pixel 6A's fingerprint sensor bug, but that was in pre release software. Aka, software you will never see even if you buy the phone the hour it comes out. For calling themselves gadget enthusiasts, techies are really bad at tech.

Displays nowadays are already so good, Samsung displays are like switching from a 240hz monitor to a 300hz monitor. Smartphone processors have been overkill for everything but the harshest of workloads since around the snapdragon 855, so that's a moot point.

Still waiting for flash light and fill light in Expert RAW. How hard it can be...

Again, can't be used on the main sensor. So still no such options on the 50MP or the 108MP sensor. Nothing expert over mid range sensors.! And 10 minute shots actually doesn't expose in 10 minutes.

Samsung's implementation of OneUI is superior to stock Android, too bad Samsung bundles its own apps and Microsoft apps, resulting in bloat.

Samsung's display is the best. iPhones a close second.

Still not impressed with Pixel's Tensor chip, although I see it improving with the Tensor G3 or G4 in future.

I bet it still applies HDR if you disable it. Only a little more subtle amount. I'll be very surprised if HDR will be disabled completely. It wouldn't be a Samsung then.
