28 October 2022
Apparently, we'll see the biggest improvement to Samsung's flagship phone's camera in five years.

One thing is certain. If they plan to sell Exynos again, I will not be buying. That's the reason I have skipped their phones since S9, and that is regardless how good might the camera be!

riyen235, 28 Oct 2022yeah, double the nits doesn't mean double the brightne... moreIIRC they do advertise peak brightness. I don't think I've ever heard any manufacturer talk about sustained brightness. But yeah, mostly... useless. Usually they go for something abstract like "improved" or something and slap a percentage on it for good measure. I'm willing to give flowery marketing a pass on that one since they're mostly right anyway and I really do prefer Samsung's AMOLED over other screens.

LOL, 28 Oct 2022Huawei (Honor) is a dead company. The sanctions will contin... moremaybe huawei has declined considering the smartphone market. but it is nowhere near death. it is one of the largest and most powerful companies in the world. it has a revenue of over 100 billion dollars and this year, huawei invested 22 billion dollars in research and development. in europe, huawei has filed most patent applications of all companies in 2022.

In my eyes, the corner stones to Camera development in S series were two major phones:

Galaxy S7: 1.4um pixel size, and an autofocus system so good it shamed some Mirrorless cameras back then.

Galaxy S9: Dual aperture, tele cam for the first time (or was it note 8?).

And its been 5 years since S9 so they do have a point.
But I hope its more than just "improved imaging/video quality".

Honestly that's not a hard claim to make.
7 years ago the s7 bumped up the 1.4um.
5 years ago they brought the dual aperture.
Since then nothing groundbreaking has happened. Just a bunch of sharpening and improved hdr.

Telephoto lenses are about the only thing that actually advanced.

Apple have always slacked but one thing Apple has always done good is video, it's just been the best package because of that. I'd say the biggest leaps we had were because of huawei AND google. The pixels and huaweis showed everyone the path of the future and everyone followed. Google then stagnated and huawei got shot in the foot. Wish Huawei were still here to at least provide competition and push companies to innovate but well that's not possible anymore.
