Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 unveiled: faster, more efficient, with ray tracing and Wi-Fi 7

15 November 2022
There are performance improvements on all fronts, but Qualcomm stayed focused on efficiency. There are also AI and modem improvements.

Its not me who decide to keep 32bit its Qualcomm, if hundreds of million people still use 32bit Qualcomm would still support it.

if you want to keep using legacy 32-vit apps, either asks developer to port it to 64-bit or keep your older phone that has the capabilities to run 32-bit app. it doesn't take much to have two phones at home. simple is.

Around 2.4 to 2.6ghz phone can sustain those clock.

Sweet spot for a phone is 4 to 6W, 13 pro max sustained around 4W while 14 series goes between 5 and 6W.

Apple does the same with their A series chips.
All that benchmark single core and multi core power is never put to use in real world.
Downclocking their chips is the secret to the good battery life on iPhones since last year

Nothing can compete with Qualcomm in the mobile chipset market.
Mediatek is catching up as well

There are plenty of old Games and apps which still use 32bit code, unless Google create some software emulation to run 32bit apps hardware will be needed, and Cortex A510 isnt fast enough to run games.

One of my favourite Android game Might and Magic clash of heroes is 32bit only if am not mistaken, in Amazon even 64bit devices run 32bit os so you will be suprised how many apps are still 32bit we are talking about potential hundreds of thousands apps.

Gpu though is so impressive, same perfomance as Immortalis inside 9200 but use around 8W only while D9200 one use 12W even sustainable perfomance is much better. Sd 8 gen 2 gpu is also way better than A16.

So in Sd 8 gen 2 you have Mediocre cpu and excellent gpu.

Hemedans, 21 Nov 2022I mean Cortex A715 over A710 i havent see realiable review yet. yeah because no smartphone has used Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 or Dimensity 9200 just yet. but their slides are pretty straightforward if you already know their track records. Anandtech did a lot of yearly Arm architectural deep dives and so far they did make good on their marketing slides.

SD8G2 will be a little more powerful than D9200 multicore, GPU will be as powerful as D9200 (stronger than A16) while being as efficient at same performance level. They are finally back on track!

Mediatek aren't any better but at least the 32-bit app support are reneged to A510R1 cores.

the market has been moving to 64-bit. Apple has drop 32-bit app support completely years ago and Google has enforcing 64-bit app to Play Store since years. supporting 32-bit by using older cores are not progressive nor it is are innovative when the only market with more than 1% of 32-bit app are China. it sounds like legacy support are preferred rather moving on.

While new apps are made to use 64bit there are so many 32bit apps which were abandoned and developers dont have plan to re write them.

Hemedans, 18 Nov 2022What market to be specific? The reason 32bit is still here ... morethe demands are only in China because Google doesn't operate there. rest of the world adhere to Google GMS requirements and that including support for 64-bit app to make sure transition like this run smooth.

the market are already here, it's been prepared by Google for years, as they're now in developing phase of 64-bit only Android, maybe as soon as Android 14.
