It's phabulous!
I've had it 3 weeks and am still finding new features but here's what I've got so far.
It's definitely not too big. My old HTC Desire, my wife's iPhone and every other phone are just too small. When it comes screens bigger is better.
It's fast. The combination of quad core, 4G and Jelly Bean makes everything smooth and fast. Most of my time is spent outside Telstra 4G coverage but even on 3G everything happens pretty quickly.
The battery life is amazing. I'm not a mega user but I've been playing with the phone a fair bit since I got it and the battery always last at least one day. The best I've managed is 3 days with light usage. That's unheard of since the days of dumb phones.
The S-Pen is nifty, I'm still exploring that.
The voice recognition is spot on. I use Maluuba to take notes and set reminders all the time. In my opinion much more useful than Siri.
The hand writing recognition is also spot on.
I have seen the future - in fact I'm holding it my hand - and the future is BIG!

the note 2 itself is a handful if the note 3 has a 5.9 inch screen then it wont be a phablet, just a mini tablet with 3g like tab 2 etc

Every body is different, some people will love the large screen phone or phablet. If you like buy it, if you don't like don't buy it.

Somebody has already come up with a 6 inch phablet, the name is Cherry Mobile.
Why don't you just add gorilla glass and LED flash to your Note 8?

Anonymous, 07 Mar 2013Innovation != big screens. The innovation in the Note II is not only the big screen. It is all the smart features available in the phone including the S pen. Whether you need those features or not that's up to you. If you don't then don't buy the phone.
The advantage that Samsung has over Apple is that it does not try to say this is the perfect size for a smartphone and expect all people to agree. Samsung makes phones in all shapes and forms and give the consumer the choice to use whatever fits their needs.

What we do today with a smartphone can't be done on a small screen. The one problem factor most people are complaining about is not so much the screen as it is most likely the dimensions of the device with a larger screen.
I had a Dell Streak and loved it because that time I mainly traveled by public transport and used it a lot for media. The brick vs space wasn't that big of a deal.
After a year I was getting a bit tired of the fact that I couldn't do some basic stuff (on/off, quick check for some notifications / pull down the bar with one hand).
Btw one handed use is a bit overrated because nobody who wants to type fast will use just the one thumb. Also for most apps you do use two hands. Anyways you want to comfortably access the whole screen without to much trouble and I think that is the most important factor here.
As long the screens get bigger and the devices will get slimmer it's all okay.

Why do people keep on complaining about screen size when they're supposed to embrace it with love?! Yes, love. Love for the extra super amoled full hd estate meant for the greatest visual of movie viewing on a handset, creativity and imagination explorations through the more advanced next-gen s-pen, and the split screen-multi window multitasking jobs. The Note series are meant for these. They're not just smartphones, they're genius phones that are coming ever closer to replace the functionality of full blown computers. So, complaining about the screen size of these future gadgets is like focusing on a tiny point ink on a great white piece of paper. Give one of them a try first, then see if you're still complainning.

Overall Note 3 is going to be the same size, but Samsung will reduce the bezel size to accomodate the increased 0.4 size extra screen.
Anyway, it is not going to be an extra row of static icons.
