04 December 2022
The microSD card grew to bigger and bigger capacities over the years and got faster along the way. So why is it waning in popularity?

I'll have to let it go, it's not a big deal for me, if I want or need extra memory, I can buy portable SSD

This topic gets me so riled up. People be like "oh I don't care if my phone has SD card slot!" Well okay then why would you think it's a bad thing? It literally does not hurt you to have that, yet somehow we've let stupid companies take away this very basic feature. Like imagine if PC manufacturers stopped including hard drive bays and connectors. This is the same thing. It's bloody well ridiculous.

I don't really care how much storage I have on my phone. The most important part about SD card is data safety. If my phone gets damaged I know that the SD card will be ok. Some could say that I can also store my data on cloud but that's a no-go if those data are property of the company. Also I already lost a few private data because some cloud algorithms decided that something isn't ok with them. I had to contact the cloud service to retrieve them but the basic question is: "Why did I even have to do this? Aren't I the owner of my data?"

If internal memory is big enough then I'm ok letting go the sd slot

Still some idiots saying " I hope it has SD"
It's history like dial up or hunger

Still rocking 1TB microsdcard on my phone that already has built-in 256GB UFS memory. All for the extra price of $100USD. Try getting the same price on internal memory.

The best thing was on my old phone, when It fell to sea and took an hour to recover: the phone was totally fried (all data), but microsdcard was totally 100% intact including all the data.

Try backing 1TB of data via HSDPA / 3G somewhere in the countryside in an emerging country.

Try accessing 1TB of data on intercontinental flights via the bandwidth limited and crappy in-flight Wifi.

Internal sdcard wins every single time.
