It's strange how nobody speaks of an even bigger omission: it only supports FAT32 USB drives... That means a limit of 4GB per file. 4K movies are larger than that, so this kind of makes the USB ports useless. It also tends to format your NTFS drive to FAT32 if you don't know about the issue and you could loose everything on that drive.

Cmawg, 11 Dec 2022Need to consider suitability for purpose. If your primary ... moreAt this price still might as well get the 98" Redmi(availability may vary...), 2800lm is on the high side for home projectors but it still translates to about 100nits at 100", with even worse ambient light rejection than a panel of that brightness, not to mention the cheapest panels at that size (namely the Redmi) has about 400nits. UST also has bad native contrast at low APL, and doesn't work well with such a wide variety of projection screens, uniformity is an issue.
And I don't consider 1xDMD "high end" in any way with the rainbow effect, if it's not 3xDMD it's DOA.
And all the other disadvantages you said:)
---------
TLDR: if you don't absolutely need >120", or for some reason need to move it around, then get a panel, projectors are very very close to being obsolete. Even pets and kids are not an issue as you could hang the panel on a wall and not worry about accidental damage.

No fan of UST PJs, so on projectorcentral.com I am only searching for PJs that have a lens with a throw ratio somewhere in the 0.5:1 to 1.1:1 range. Depending on th material's aspect ratio, I sit anywhere from 0.9x image width toi 1.3x image width. With a zoom lens, I can adjust the size, however I prefer a PJ with a fixed TR lens, those are always sharper (as with photo and cinema lenses).

I get that is ultra short throw, but if I'm spending $3k or more I expect more than 2800 lumens. Especially if part of the benefit of this specific light source tech is higher brightness. 2800 is good, but also average.

Need to consider suitability for purpose. If your primary function is gaming where you want subsecond response and 120hz+ refresh rates. You probably want an OLED display small enough to be comfortably close to with a top notch headset for the ultimate single player experience... And maybe on a desk rather than a living room wall.
A projector is not going to compete with that. But for an immersive experience that can support gaming from your couch 12' away with a stunning 10 foot screen and full room surround sound... A 4k UST is a compelling option. And when it comes to friends or family piling in to watch a show, a game or play something multiplayer together... 120"+ vs 120hz+ is a different value proposition.

high-end, best spec of laser projectors that I've been checking a few weeks ago. however, lack of 120Hz and for $3k, I'd probably settle with a large and fragile TV.
