Probably just a spin that their gaming branded phones are not selling that well, so might as well scrap it.
To really test his claim, tech bloggers should try and ask Asus how's their ROG phones are doing. If Asus says they are selling fine, than this simply means Xiaomi's not selling theirs well, and they just cover it up by saying the market is dying.

And I think he has a point:- Maybe the over flashy phone and LED lights don't make a gaming phone.
Just pure performance, good high refresh fullHD displays gaming ergonomics and triggers and extra USB matter.
And these can stay within a common phone, although I think they must keep a 3.5mm jack for gaming. The USB blocks usage of cooling accessories and chargers and all.
But like some other guy pointed, what's the use of a gazillion copies of Redmi note series then?
