Anonymous, 12 Dec 2022It's a nice camera but not sure about the phone or how... moreSo in every damn article that not even discussing about software people need to bring up "sofware updates" like every one will use their phone for straight 5 years and their phone will be obsolete when not receiving more than 2/3 years of os updates. Even now android 12 and 13 barely have any significan changes and securiy updates can be installed trough play store (well in my defense and experience, most last/higher update version will always make your phone perform worse and bring some nasty bug that most people usually prefer their first/older version firmware)

Did you mean "point and shoot cameras"? Because I know of one or two models that had moving lens. Or did you try to compare popup lens on a phone with a flip phone, or a slider? I wouldn't say they're comparable in any way to popup lens. Probably because I used all three for a while - sliders, flip phones and point-and-shoot cameras with popup lens.

It would be great if gsmarena could start a new trend for tech-journalism. When writing about camera sensors, add the actual size in mm (W x H). The typical 1/2,7" size makes no sense, and you need to google it to find the exact sensor size.

Look at samples, the person is always very close.
Otherwise, camera cannot give not even tiny amount of blur.

It's a nice camera but not sure about the phone or how long it will last, OS updates warranty etc. Tecno is also relatively unknown among people and currently places phones mostly in budget segment
But keeping side all things, this is a gigantic, oversized huge brick of a phone and for this reason, I skip this

The article should be 'the best portrait smartphone camera'.
On my daily basis, 50mm-125mm are the best bet for portraits. In camera world, 80mm-85mm are the most popular one.

Excellent! I would buy this phone just for playing with this very interesting portrait camera. Maybe one of the few features today that brings smartphone photography closer to the traditional feeling and doing photos: with traditional cameras.

Anonymous, 12 Dec 2022Photography websites call 135 GM the sharpest lens ever. ... moreThis is why I said the GM 'has very nice optical characteristics', as 135mm F1.8 GM is indeed a very sharp lens. But when taking a picture of people, it's not any better than RF 85mm F1.2, because for portrait shots the amount as well as the look of the bokeh become far more important than an absolute corner to corner resolution. 85mm is more suitable other general purpose photography as well, it's simply a more versatile focal length compared to 135mm which is way too tight for most types of photography.
