Nope, not just the bootloader. In fact unlocking bootloader is available for all HTC phones for root access. But, this will be S-OFF and having Super CID. With which you can do lot of things. Luckily I have got HTC One X Dev version :)

so they just unlock the bootloader and call it dev version?
then you can make any Sony phone a dev version for free, officially.

Julius, 13 Mar 2013More and more this shows why HTC is where it's at. All phon... moreThey are not charging extra for the unlocked version, pretty much the same as the standard, carrier locked version, and it's not HTC that is locking the regular version but the carriers. The same goes for any manufacturer that deals with these telcos.

So if I buy the normal phone [not devs edition] then wont i be able to root the phone anymore?? Then whats the use of the "Unlocked bootloaders" concept for ALL the phones of the HTC??

GREAT IDEA HTC...i always like my phones carrier unlocked. But i will like to see a carrier unlocked version of this phone with HSPA+42 and LTE that will play nice with both Tmobile and ATT. I think the US version is a test run and if it is gobbled up in no time, they will mass produce more for US and other regions. I URGE HTC to do more of this...mostly now with all the talk of criminalizing unlocking in the US. Since this will be the ONE PHONE that will likely carry them thru 2013, they should cover all their bases with a myriad of carriers and also UNLOCKED version. Then do a perfect 110% advertising job and also price it reasonably. LETS GO HTC..LETS GO

More and more this shows why HTC is where it's at. All phones should have an unlockable boot loader by default (well, except for carrier demands, then it's not their fault), not something you charge an extra. Compare to Sony, for instance, which has a much more favorable stance on that and other matters.

Hopefully they die in a slow and miserable bankruptcy.

I'm an apple user, but HTC needs to be given credit. Their devices are solidly made. Good quality phones. That said, their marketing needs to be 10 times better or else sony and lg will eat them alive.
