Moto X40 unveiled with SD 8 Gen 2 and 165Hz OLED display, Moto G53 offers 5G on the cheap

15 December 2022
There is no X40 Pro, at least not yet. The one thing keeping this from a "pro" label may be the main camera. On the plus side, it is cheaper than the X30 Pro.

The Android Freak, 16 Dec 2022Camera set up is outdated. Xiaomi 13 has better camera and ... moreXiaomi 13 and Motorola X40 have same main sensor and chip, so it will be down to software optimisation, while ultrawide is better on X40 on paper, only definitive advantage that Xiaomi 13 has is telephoto.

Overall, everything is comparable or better on X40, but cheaper, and I am saying this as a Xiaomi fan.

Anonymous, 16 Dec 2022Both have chinese screens, which are bad. Lol no, I got 12x, incredible display.

Basically all high end screens are made by Samsung in all phones.

If Motorola can get the X40 internationally for 600-700 euros then they got a powerful beast.

The Android Freak, 16 Dec 2022Camera set up is outdated. Xiaomi 13 has better camera and ... moreVery similar. Xiaomi is using basically the same size for the main sensor. The imx800 was on the honor 70. It's not much different than the OV50A. The x40 has a better ultrawide (same as the ultrawide on the Xiaomi 13pro) and the telephoto is about the same. Motorola is using a better more expensive imx663 sensor but it's only 2x so mainly for portraits. Xiaomi is using a weaker more budget sensor but has 3.2x. Overall the camera hardware is about the same. The displays also have their pros and cons but yeah, Xiaomi's is probably slightly better despite being just 8 bit versus 10 bit. Motorola has other advantages like 14 5g bands versus 10 for Xiaomi. 25 4g bands versus 15 for Xiaomi and usb 3.x versus usb 2.x. Overall they are very similar but the Xiaomi 13 is overpriced compared to the competition

I hope it's priced aggressively in India. It looks like this will going to be my next phone. I am tired of buggy MIUI.

Forgot to mention that X40 doesn't seem to have LTPO display.

If only Motorola/Lenovo can up their camera algorithm and software support.

Anonymous, 15 Dec 2022X40 > mi 13 Maybe for the Mi 13 Pro, but I prefer the Mi 13 itself for the smaller display. I hate phones that are 6.7" or larger. I guess if you game a lot and want a giant slab, it's ok.

Not always a fan of Motorola/Lenovo's phone offerings but I've got to admit... at least on paper these look really promising. Doesn't quite compete with the big boys in the design compartment but it's not exactly ugly either. Just a tad generic.

PMKLR3m, 15 Dec 2022That's from overpriced Motorola. I guess there a bit ... moreActually, in China Motorola offers cheaper prices than any other brand for similarly specced phones. It's probably because they are new to the Chinese market, almost exclusively sell online and have only really fully entered the Chinese market slightly under 2 years ago so they have to offer cheap prices to try and get some market share from more established brands. They also spend very little on marketing compared to Oppo, Vivo and Xiaomi who have advertisements everywhere and use celebrity endorsers so that saves on costs

Anonymous, 15 Dec 2022Wow! One thing that I didn't like about moto x30 was t... moreIP rating. Such a costly gimmick.
Anywaterproof case for 2 bucks does lot more job and it can be more trusted than this.
Since no company includes water damage into warranty having or not having IP rating is meaningless because even a low grade G53 Motorola can withstand few rain drops and on the other hand noone is going to swith with Moto X30 pro or Moto X4 ebcause from your 30 minutes underwater you get a dead device in 30 seconds.

Anonymous, 15 Dec 2022Why y'all acting like this was more than just Chinese ... moreBecause some seller in my country direct import from China and the price stay mostly the same. And if Motorola released the phone official, the price mostly will increase around 5 to 10 percent due to tax. For example edge 30 in my country only cost $250 from official motorola store.

I haven't been a big fan of Motorola under Lenovo's leadership, but the X40 has me intrigued in a positive way.
