Enthusiasts, 22 Dec 2022For the past month now there's been a lot of hype of u... moreA16 better? Not sure!
About CPU, that's right...but A16 is a system on chip, not only a CPU...if you compare to a PC, System on chip is like your motherboard+CPU+GPU...
Many things are better on both 8 Gen 2 and Dimensity 9200...GPU and Ram for exemple.

Yes, both 8 Gen 2 and Dimensity 9200 are ahead in term of GPU...
Plus initial roadmap for A16 included hardware ray-tracing but engineers failed and removed the feature...the more funny thing is Apple left GPU from Imagination technologies a few years ago and this company is able to provide hardware ray-tracing yet...without customers! Apple was to greedy!
It's still hard to benchmark ISP or AI...
At least Qualcomm includes AV1 hardware decoder this year, Mediatek had it since 3 years and Apple...still hasn't!

A16 is overrated based on Geekbench score...but Geekbench is CPU focused!
Is CPU that important? Less and less on modern architecture
If you're a gamer, GPU is the first important part...Apple loose
The second important part is RAM Bandwidth...Apple loose (both Mediatek and Qualcomm use LPDDR5X when Apple uses LPDDR5...as marketing Apple said they improve memory Bandwidth by 50%, that's true. On iPhone 13, LPDDR4x Ram was 4266 (quad chanel), on 14 Pro it's 6400. Now you've got up to LPDDR5X 8533 on Android...A16 allowed +50% Bandwidth over A15, Dimensity 9200 allowed...+100%!)
If you're a streaming consumer, video decoder is the important part...in a couple of years, A16 will be obsolete...a 2000€ iphone will drain batterie with 70% CPU charge doing software decoding on AV1 when a 400€ Oneplus Nord 2, far older, will do hardware decoding with 10% CPU charge
If you prefer photography ISP is the more important part.
    AI performances isn't CPU related.

And you can add, Apple still have to use a separate chip for bluetooth and wifi (I think from broadcom)...it's only wifi 6!
    It's built-in on both Dimensity 9200 and 8 Gen 2 and it's wifi 6E and wifi 7 ready!
Or you can add, Apple still have to use a separate 5g modem (from Qualcomm)...Apple's engineers failed on this too...when Unisoc is able to build their own 5g!
    It's built-in on both Dimensity 9200 and 8 Gen 2

Iphone 14 Pro Max isn't as futureproof on many things :
    - gaming : lack of Ray tracing
    - wireless connectivity : lack of wifi 6E and 7
    - streaming : lack of AV1 hardware decoding
    It's hardware related...software update won't change anything!

Anonymous, 22 Dec 2022Dude, all A CPU series were/are manufactured by Samsung. Th... moreSo the chip Samsung is manufacturing for its own products is inferior to the ones the ship out to other companies. Wow, a paradox.

For the past month now there's been a lot of hype of upcoming flagship android phones fitted with Qualcomm snapdragon 8gen 2 and Media tek dimensity 9200 chips which obviously will be very powerful. However all this excitement is somewhat tarnished since apple already has had for more a month now 2 iPhone variants, the iPhone 14 pro and iPhone 14 pro max both fitted with the even more powerful a16 bionic chip. And if that weren't enough apple iphones have historically had superior software- hardware efficiently-optimization vs android phones which is why apple iphones run smoother as well as having higher performance benchmarks vs flagship android phones. So with that being said you could say apple has already won the contest before Android's next flagship phone even got started. Now that's winning by a mile and then some.
