...and make it more fragile than it already is...iPPs are THE go-to tablets on the market but any change that suggests further structural compromise is pushing it over the edge, its only main weakness is its annual bendgate.

If anything, running iPadOS allows for a distraction-free thin client device.
Now, the only thing that iPad had going for it, the screen, is ruined because Apple wants to be cheap and use OLED panels for everything. They flicker like CRT monitors from the 90's, when everybody who stared at a screen for a few hours a day ended up having to wear glasses.
We've been free from pwm dimming for almost a decade now in computing, but Apple wants to bring it back. Major regression.
The result will be more unexplained eyestrain, migranes, and dizziness/health issues.

I guess Apple doesn't care about pwm eyestrain. iPads will no longer be a premium product that people can do work on.

The ONLY thing people need to be concerned about is pixel burn-in.
Apple iPads are expensive and meant to be used long-term. That might mean we see alot of iPads in the future with bad displays.
Now, I'm fairly impressed with the iPhone X having much lower rates of screen burn-in than the Samsung Note 8 and S9+. But it's still happening. So we'll see how much worse the cheaper iPad product will be.

Some people like me really do suffer from eye strain from oled screens. I can't use many oled screens due to eye strain. The reason why I am sticking with the current gen 11 inches is the fact that it has an IPS screen. Still a great display (may not be the greatest) with low eye strain. If the next one is oled and it is not flicker free I will have to stick to the current ipad pro without upgrading.

12.4 and bigger ultra size is my new favorite. Media aspect ratio tho.
Maybe would be easier finding one with windows instead. Feels like android tablets are overpriced recently.

Anonymous, 30 Dec 2022Oled isn't bad. I'm using it. Not much different.... moreConsidering apple advertises ipad pro as productivity tool, having all those apps with menus and stuff that remain still for long time on oled is not good.

I would say bad decision. there's no match for IPS display clarity + life + eye safety. Yes I know brightness is far better on OLED but that's only in sunlight.
IPS era is now coming to end and eyes problems + migraine are on rise
