Anonymous, 06 Jan 2023I'm glad that lots of people of science that find a wa... moreI made some personal devices with LiPo cells. That started with reading a lot of specifications from the battery makers, charge controller chips, and research papers on LiPo battery care. There are hard boundaries on voltages and currents to avoid disaster. Too low voltage causes crystal growth that physically damages the battery. Too high voltage causes gassing and possible lithium electroplating. Cells should also be expected to have an uneven internal resistance as they age, which could lead to uneven charging and discharging at higher currents across the cell.

Did you see Realme's graphic about all the temperature sensors? Yes, you can charge cells VERY fast but it's technically tedious, dangerous, and it only works when the battery is perfect. At 240W, natural imperfections will cut that rate very soon.

Go ahead and buy the phone. Let us know how fast it charges after its a few months old. Or if it explodes from a minor design flaw in the charger.

IpsDisplay, 06 Jan 2023Calm down 1) they can use proprietary technology 2) ... moreIt is gimmick whne they show ''240 watts... kids immediately thinks phone gonna charge in that full 240w.
Kids boys don't understands it that in reality not even half so 120W is used when charging battery .. even when u have adapter / charger for laptops they come with 60w or 90w or 130W or 180W or 200W or above but they never ever use full power for chrging which supports..
The power adapter for laptop has total 18V but everything is regulated by osfet chip where 8V is injected into battery when chrging and laptops with fast charging injects about 10V 10A or max 15A
For smartphones is max 3V or 5V and 5A injected into battery and this fast charging can enable same as laptop chargers max 10V and can go up to 15W max
The smartphone batteries has same cells as laptop batteries where laptops has 4 cells but bulkier with higher capacity and for smartphones to keep smartphone slim are only one cell or dual cell but only up to 5000mAh

There... moreThen tell me one reason why would western companies totally ignore mega fast charging speeds and why would they be okay with Chinese brands taking a somewhat bigger market cut if that's something so desirable and 100% safe. We can rule out Apple as they have limits on their lightning port but why all others don't have it? Asus, Sony, Samsung? Samsung has a 180W charging bricks for their line of laptops but topping at 45W for their phones. What do you think why? Why don't they do exactly the same thing like on their laptops and split battery in to two or more cells like Chinese brands are doing in much more compact body like smartphones. Why would western brands ignore it?

i am glad BBK decided spread this technology from Oppo to other subbrands.

what makes me curious though is how do they maintain "80% of its original charge after 1,600 charging cycles", exactly?

they use the same LiPo technology as others, and yet they double the recharge cycles? how exactly did they achieve that? did they go electric cars approach to spare a battery?

AnonD-731363, 05 Jan 2023Man yes charger gets hotter but not phone and battery. LiPo cells have increasing resistance as they age. That's what usually limits their lifespan.
They're not going to hit 240W except when brand new.

Applying 10V to a lithium battery sounds like a bad idea. LiPo cells area already like a bag of gasoline because of their flammable electrolyte. Blasting too much voltage into pulls unstable elemental lithium out of the lithium salts.

I'll pass. I took a tiny Bluetooth earpiece battery outside and overcharged it to see what would happen. It made a 2 meter fireball then sprayed sparks of burning metal.

Interesting, but so unnecessary. And I'm pretty sure that the actual 240W we will see for like a minute or two, and the rest will be much lower.
