Well this is unfortunatly. I've been holding off on the Duos because they've needed work, and they Duo 2 was a step back imo. But I loved the design way more than a folding screen phone. I liked that there wasn't a screen on the outside, that when closed, the screens were protected (and that they were real screens, not glastic). I liked the 360 hinge. changing to the folding crap is a stupid choice. They had a good design with the Duo. oh well, I dont plan on getting anyone else's folding screen phone, and I wont be getting MSs if thats the direction they go in with this product line.

In my technical opinion folding screens have a very limited lifetime and are just for a short time show-off to some friends. Eventually you will get in trouble. especially at the folding line. The hinged device was a more practical solution and Microsoft had gone favangard with this technology. You need to lead the way, not to be hanging behind others. I personally was planning to buy Duo 3 when it would have been released - for all our family. But then read of this pointless surrender to a folding fashion. NO thanks.

So Microsoft is choosing to just get beaten down by ever other generic foldable design out there. Don't think that's going to work, Google pretty much stole the selling points if the new proposed Duo 3. The duo 2 is a unique device in a field of look alike devices. I think they are missing a chance to set a niche they can fill, instead they are caving t review spam and generic ideas.

The company's more than capable of continueing the line and tailoring it - but a fast grab seems more interesting and that's a shame.

If Microsoft wanted, they could sell the Duo2 in millions, but for the reason I do not know, they did not want to. Since October last year you can not find it in their store, it is out of the stock! Here in UK you can get the 256GB around 2500BP form other resellers. It is crazy, not to mention Microsoft is selling it only in US and limited quantity in UK. Why? They could very easy ramp up the production line and sell it to at least in dozen countries, and I am sure the Duo2 would be a success. But they didn't want to, why? no idea...If the Duo3 will be a two sepaerate screen (as Duo2), and MS decides to sell and support the Duo line in at least a dozen countries, you will see a lot of sales.

Im so annoyed I love my Duo 2 just wish they would tinker and tweak it a tad more. It honestly my favorite device ever so hearing they are going foldable is a disappointment but I'll still check it out. Articles like these don't help bashing a design they don't understand. It's a great multi task device its not a giant tablet which all these reviewers tries to make it out to be. Just plain idiotic.

Microsoft and Nokia did the right but people actually did the wrong. Now we have sold us to Google and Facebook. Windows phones wouldn't do it. I am now forced to receive abusive ads daily where I have no control. Whereas it wouldn't happen for iphone or windows phone. I am eagerly waiting for a windows echo system and leave Google forever. I believe Facebook and Google gonna be the most fatal mistake for human beings.

Instead of improving what they have with the 360 hinges and dual screens they took a step backwards. I actually prefer the two separate screens. That is why I bought it and not any of the others. I do not want a foldable. If microsoft decides to just follow the others and not stay unique then I'll go back to a regular device. Going to a single screen removes the multitasking and productivity that were the reasons I chose the duo in the first place. It is so disappointing that Microsoft caves to peer pressure. It didn't work for them before and this will end badly for them again.

This device is priced high to justify patent licensing fees. It’s such a small number of produced phones, that profit is not a concern here on the front end when trying to sell this to consumers. Its low volume high pricepoint make it uncompetitive and that’s kind of the point.

                          I’ll give you an example.
Everyone made fun of the Zune, but it was Microsoft R&D that licensed the famous touchwheel patent to Apple for use on their iPod. Royalties paid per device.

It won’t make sense but defeat surface duo form factor. The current form factor is ok, they just need to improve the software issues surrounding it.

I owned the Duo 2 & Fold 4 and in terms of productivity and multitasking, the Duo is easily the better device. I personally prefer the dual screen set up of the Duo. The only real drawback the device has is the camera. Aside from that, it's a great device. Sucks that it didn't get much support because it's definitely a great option for anyone looking for a foldable.
