The reason is not small hand big hand
BUT.... the way we use our phone.
In Asia, for most people, the phone is the primary device for TikTok, Youtube, iQiYi, WeTV, etc. Thus, bigger is better.
In the west, for most people, phone is supplement, a temporary solution while on the move

Nothing 1,Moto Edge 30, Pixel 6a are much better phones overall.& Realme GT2,GT Neo 3T,Iqoo Neo 6 canbe found for ₹26k in sales.
Conditions look especially bad if you consider horrible MIUI software & Poor build quality of Xiaomi phones.
Once Warranty period is over too many customers face problems related to display/speaker/motherboard/camera/battery sometimes phone bricking.
So please stay away from Xiaomi phones.

The peoples who use the above 6.6 inch phone for the purpose of playing games and spend their valuable time also.
Look at the 2011 - 2018 time period for the phone spec and design. That time period also people use the smartphone with 5.2 inch to 6.2inch.
