But for smartwatches that are still developing, and where a device bought today is likely to be totally outdated in a few years, I agree that we should focus almost solely on functionality, so we can upgrade more frequently, with small loss discarding the old one.
When the technology stabilizes, other aspects could be considered, such as the longevity, and its potential value as an ornament.

For one thing it should be something like Colour e-ink, that could be always on, with minimal battery impact.
And stamina in weeks, not in the order of a single day.
So several years out in the future before we reach a smart-watch that is likely to be useful in at the least a decade.,

Rmak, 16 Jan 2023You really deserve this watch, here is the link, https:/... more2150 No thanks.
If a 100 eur watches does litterary same tricks there is nno point to spend 2000 more on a Tag Heuer brand.
I admit the build quality but its not for me.
Reason is very simple. If a device do its job properly then its enough for me.
Paying for a brand name is a NO for me.
I dislike to spend on expensive things if something simmilar for much lower price will do same work.

Nothing special except the brand name! You do all it does with a Apple watch or GARMIN at fraction of the price. Even the materials are not that special and the tech is out dated in 2 years. Save your money, be practical.

robi10101298, 16 Jan 2023It's OS+chipset, the Huawei Watch 3 Pro can stand 5 da... moreThanks. Indeed pretty absurd.
As mentioned below (no, I do not get provision or anything, just a happy owner!!)
The T8 I got has with active continuous monitoring of Heart Rate + SpO2 + Blood Pressure + Sleep (and a daily morning alarm) has on a single charge gone from 100% to 26% in TWENTY days!!! Extrapolating that would be 27 days, but as going to zero is not wise, 3 WEEKS is a conservative number(!)

And it is a really thin watch, where they only found room for a 185mAh battery.

So the TH must have REALLY horrible software/chipset to last only ONE day.
Sure it could have more functionality active, but 25 times shorter stamina AND 75 times higher price seems absolutely absurd.....

ADD: Just looked at their homepage, its ONLY health oriented sensor seems to do heart rate. I'm not kidding....

Ambient light sensor, Barometer, Compass, Heart rate monitor, Accelerometer, Gyroscope, NFC, Microphone"

Hills od, 15 Jan 2023I wanna understand why someone will pay $2000+ for a watch?... moreA mechanical watch of high quality can easily last way over 50 years, and be inherited by next generation(s).
Smart watches are still in infancy and ANY of them will be considered hopelessly outdated just ten years ahead, so I totally agree, that the price does not make sense. UNLESS they (as suggested below) make some sort of upgrade plan, where they replace the outdated interior in the exclusive housing, recycling what can be reused, and upgrade the rest.

I wanna understand why someone will pay $2000+ for a watch?
I don't really get it maybe that's why i always prefer the traditional watches

The case designs are simplistic and case finishing is non-existent. They look like toys. Apple and Samsung watches aren't luxury products, though.

Kyusho, 15 Jan 2023Yeah, for that price it has to be better than Garmin and Am... moreYes for the Mechanical watch I Understand, But for the Smart watch plzz NO.

Kyusho, 15 Jan 2023Yeah, for that price it has to be better than Garmin and Am... moreObviously smart watches are still at infantry so totally silly to buy an expensive one, as it will be outdated very fast. I mean 1 day stamina... Completely useless for the majority of people.

I wonder if it is a poor choice of chips, or OS that is the issue? I mean you can buy smartwatches for (literally!) 1% of this, that can last for weeks, so it is not that technology does not exist - nor is it expensive.

If the top watchmakers were smart, they would sell these more exclusively branded smartwatches with an upgrade-options, where they offered you the ability to upgrade the electronics (incl sensors) in the same housing within say at the least ten years for a (relatively) reasonable price, e.g. $200 for an upgrade.

This way it would make more sense to buy one today and upgrade the inner parts as the technology matures.

I would love to have something in the quality and size of my Omega Seamaster Polaris in titanium and gold.
But I'm certainly not going to buy it if it is useless for daily usage and totally outdated within a few years....

So something like this would do for now: https://eskerahn.dk/?p=4941
That I can replace whenever there is a new model, until a good Omega option is offered.
