Cyberchum, 23 Jan 2023Remember S10e? How much did it sell compared to S10 and S10+? From my personal experience, there is not much reason to buy S10e over S10.

Providing more context here - I was coming from a 5 inch 16:9 phone at that time, being used a < 4.5 inch phone for long time I weren't able to use that large 5 inch phone properly, so I was looking for phones with higher aspect ratio and smaller bezels and S10e was the only compact phone I could find with good specs.
When I tried Handling S10e at store it was compact and happy to buy, but then when I tried S10 it was no different. In a way It was more ergonomic due to the fact that fingerprint sensor is at the bottom, where you can use it with a good grip on the phone. S10e had it at the top edge where it's hard to reach with thumb, have to use forefinger losing the grip.

Checking the specs now, S10 is around 5% heavier, with 5% larger battery. 5% larger diagonal with

As someone who uses S21 FE (6.4" 19.5:9), I can say that the SWEET spot would be 6.4" 20:9. With small side bezels it would be perfect for people who don't have giant hands at the same time it will be big enough for people who watch videos and play games on their phones.

Cyberchum, 23 Jan 2023For you, yes! I don't realize, why nowadays all people are so weird, all of them like extra large phones. It is absolutely impossible nowadays to buy medium size phone. Last medium size phone is iphone se, which was released in year 2016. All phones released after year 2016 are large or extra large phones.

Cyberchum, 22 Jan 2023Now also wish that buyers will buy those phones. How man... more"How many of you bought Zenfone 9?"

How many of the markets is Zenfone 9 available?

I will share my personal experience. I had recommended Zenphone 9 for 2 people in my family at different times. Both had to settle in for a different phone due to it being not available even after waiting. One bought Galaxy S because they can afford it and another had to settle for a cheaper larger phone(again a Samsung, which they claim is not used as much due to size and weight issue).
And the fact is Zenphone costs as much as Galaxy S phones. So there's no way Zenphone is going to sell huge given Samsung support and service. My next phone would be Zenphone if they keep the compact form factor and fix their market availability and pricing.

sirol, 23 Jan 20234,1"-4,4" would be perfect. For you, yes!

Diavoros, 23 Jan 2023There are many people that might be buying phones with bigg... moreThere are many people that will easily settle for lesser specs insofar they could get larger displays.

Here in Nigeria, display size is probably the first thing the average person considers, and he mostly buys cheap, low end phones, by the way.

Rich people are more likely to do what you said, but there aren't many of them in the world.

Your argument about Asus has some validity, but how well is it doing in the markets where it's available? How many of you that are aware of it bought it? These questions need answers. What about when Samsung did S10e? I'm pretty sure that there'd have been a sequel if the experiment was a success. Vanilla S22 is also relatively small, how well is it doing in the market compared to its bigger brothers? And those don't even target poor people, because had they been, they'd sell even worse: like I've said multiple times, the average poor person will hardly prefer to buy a phone with small display, not when that phone is also going to serve as his/her TV, by a long stretch.

While I understood where you're trying to get to, I've actually touched that point somewhere in this comment section, but I'll address it again.

The price and battery argument still works against you. How? Firstly, with price most low-income earners, a good number coming from developing worlds, rely heavily on their phones for media. These are people who are likely to either not have TVs or access to stable electricity to actually watch TVs in their free times. But hey, even in developed worlds where there are people better off, economically-speaking, and much stable electricity supply, statistics has shown that people do most of their media consumption on their mobile phones (go and do a brief search on Google). Now, tell me, what range of screen size do you think that people who rely heavily on their phones for media would buy? I've seen people, poor people, shown constitent preference for large displays before 2016. Most actually scoff at smaller ones, some because it makes them feel even poorer.

And, that's leads us to battery! Smaller than 6 inches with decent performance? Very, very possible. There could easily be ones with GREAT performance. But guess what you're definitely not going to get? Ones with two-day battery life. I actually chuckled when you said that, because it clearly seemed disconnected from reality—unless you're also asking for them to be significantly thicker than today's phones, in which case, yes, there could be. Batteries started getting bigger when phone sizes started growing. Zenfone 9 is already 9.1mm, with 4300mAh, which CAN'T muster 2-day battery longevity, unless it's used sparingly. But someone who uses phone for most media consumption isn't going to use that sparingly, coupled with his/her other use-case scenarios. So, for 2-days, we're looking at around 12 mm with 6000mAh+. Sorry, but most wouldn't buy that, because it would make them standout easily—hardy anyone likes standing out for a cheap phone that would announce their low economic status to whoever comes by.

"It's absolutely possible to have good, cheap, SMALL phones with GREAT battery life that would sell REALLY WELL." Sorry, but from every indication, it is seem to be possible to have that. (I would have also capitalised "good", but I decided not to because "good" is quite subjective. Most people wouldn't, however, regard a phone of more than 11 mm thick as good, nowadays.)

"It doesn't happen, simply because for manufacturers it wouldn't be as profitable as the current operational model." Yes, to them, it wouldn't be as profitable as the current operational model for the simple, big reason that they wouldn't sell well. If they'd sell well, manufacturers would happily make them. Why wouldn't they? If you were calling the shots in most of those companies, you'd not make it happen, too, because, at the end of the day, private business is just about making profits.

The poll is rigged to force people to select 6.1" even if they prefer 6.0". As you can see, the second most popular choice is under 6.0", which makes perfect sense anyway. 6.0" is still very big and something in the 5.0" to 5.8" range is probably what is best. Big phones are for dummies.

Little is said about the aspect ratio of the screen, which greatly influences its comfort and usefulness in its different uses.

It matters to me that it has a minimum width of around 6.9 cm and a maximum of 7.1 cm with a flat screen and being somewhat curved, the maximum would increase to 7.32 cm for comfortable writing, viewing networks and websites. These measurements have been given to me by the experiences of many mobile phones, and the 5.36" (16:10) of the MX4 or the 5.7" (16:9) of the Samsung G. Note 5 gave me a better experience than others with 6.5" due to its aspect ratio (20:9) or 6.4" (19.5:9) which do not reach the width of the mentioned screens (smaller). And with the height something similar happens to me, up to a certain point I find it comfortable (of course, all this will depend on the size of each one, I measure 1.78 cm) and around the typical 16.3 cm they are already somewhat uncomfortable for me I think the maximum for me would be there and the ideal would be no more than 15.8 cm.

I think that the most appropriate aspect ratio today is 18.5:9 (approx. 2:1) since they are between 21:9 for cinema and 16:9 for TV, so with 6, 7" would achieve a good width and height that are comfortable and functional.
