Weekly poll results: Wired charging needs to be super fast, wireless not so much

29 January 2023
People want wireless charging, they just don't care about its speed. Wired charging, however, that better be done in 15 minutes.

Olympus Oms, 29 Jan 2023Nice try, but lying doesn't show anything else than yo... moreThe only liars here are you and CptPoor, still talking about big batteries as if people ever cared.

blue, 29 Jan 2023And real-life people don't care about it... And why would they?
They don't know about that phone. There is no marketing. If anything, there's marketing for the iPhone and Galaxy, and those devices are consumer-hostile. They're expensive, slippery, fragile, un-repairable, and lack many features. The profit margins are huge too. Obviously a company wants to maximise it's profits, so Samsung is going to promote the S22 Ultra and Fold Z4 over the likes of the A52-s and the xCover Pro 6.

The reality of the situation is that as hardware gets more efficient, software gets less efficient. Just something simple like browsing the web, I see a huge +40% difference in battery life between running regular Chrome, versus running AdBlock through Firefox or Brave. The average size of an emails has also ballooned over the past decade. Same for Native Games and Applications, the worst offender is Social Media.

That's why you "need" to overnight charge your phone, then charge it in the car, then afternoon a fast-charge session, and some trickle-charging in the evening. Or what many people do, which is to carry a PowerBank with them. Horrible. You could just carry a second battery with you, it would be much slimmer, lighter, and pocketable... and allow you to double your battery life in a practical sense. But that's just not "sexy". That's not profitable. So that's a feature that OEMs will remove, and they will un-promote from their huge marketing divisions.

Most batteries nowdays can easily last 3-5 years.
Most ophones nowdays people swap every 2-3 years.
In other words you get new phone faster than you have to swap your battery.
Then dunno whats your casual problem because we have no problem with what you posted here.

If phone i mean 200+W charger can top up battery under 10 minutes battery wont even heat up to gets damaged this way is phone safe, batery safe only problem should be if person leaves phone on charger for several hours like overnight even knowing his battery would be full within 10 minutes of time.
This superfast charging is much more safe than waiting eons on a super slow typical samsung, apple, sony or google charger.

I agree. There's a lot of fantastic mid-range and some flagship phones with great specs that I'm willing to buy if not for the fact that they lack wireless charging. People who complain about wireless charging being slow do not understand that wireless charging is not about speed. It's about convenience. Place it and forget it.

Olympus Oms, 29 Jan 2023Do you have lots of friends who buy phones with under 6&quo... moreWell, actually, I do. Many of my friends and colleagues use iPhone SE or iPhone mini. Then there are many using basic Galaxy S or standard 6,1" iPhone.
But somehow, of all the thousands people I know nobody uses the chinese toys with 10 000 mAh batteries.
                          Guess why?

Anonymous, 29 Jan 2023That has not been my experience. Batteries are cheap and ju... moreIn your country perhaps.

Not many countries have service centers for different brand of phones you personally prefer.
So you have to rely on getting the battery online yourself, have it shipped to you which costs more. Then risk replacing the battery yourself or pay extra again to someone to replace it for you.

So nope its not always that easy. Don't use your country as yardstick to determine how the rest of the world works.

Result is a no-brainer. Just get charging done as fast as possible. Even in the case of battery life, why would I want a phone with great battery life and slow charging when I can also get a phone with great battery life and 30mins full charge for the same price or even cheaper. I have the convenience of fast charging and I can also slow charge all I want.

Anonymous, 29 Jan 2023I'm okay with fat phones. Dunno why Samsung can't... moreZenfone is even smaller than s22, so yeah. I would actually switch those two, if it wasn't because Asus sux for os mods and stability.

Our pockets are already maxed out, so that example is useless as defense. We want bigger batteries over the need for charger 22/7. That's why they made the phone without the battery briefcase. But now we are right back at that time again. We need to fill ourselves with powerbanks or rush out finding a power plug.

You could make another poll with an option with, should not need charging and people will pick that
