Razer Edge teardown reveals an active cooling fan

30 January 2023
The Edge is an Android-powered gaming handheld, though it is not a phone. It is built very similar to a phone, however.

Stop talking about the god dame ram, it's a razer product, the main thing people should focus on is it's non existent customer service and warranty. They churn out devices then drop all supports if it doesn't sell well. I wouldn't buy one if they aren't going to pledge a minimum support duration.

Anonymous, 31 Jan 2023there's no reason a switch emulator needs 6gb of ram, ... moreRight, because you are clearly a developer and know exactly what it needs.

Super Android 22, 31 Jan 2023So you're complaining about 6gb of ram in a device but... moreWhy are you going on about people saying 6gb is fine, which it is BTW (lots of companies add virtual ram from high speed storage and android uses around 2gb standard) but then bringing up iPhones storage options and aggravating people saying they belive that was OK, which it was for its time... 12 years ago. (btw 2011 phones varied from my Xperia play which had 400mb of storage to the HTC inspire 4g with 4gb of storage, to 8gb iPhones and 16gb galaxy s2). Weird point you're trying to make.

          P. S. This was a reply to annom but GSMarenas site decided to post the comment twice and once to myself.

(which in 2011 phones varied from my Xperia play which had 400mb of storage to the HTC inspire 4g with 4gb of storage, to 8gb iPhones and 16gb galaxy s2)

Anonymous, 31 Jan 2023it's still fine. blame companies who no longer bother ... moreRight but android doesn't use ram the same as a Windows device or apple device so what's the problem? If you still have ram left to use then there isn't a problem, it's what android does until it has no ram left then will prioritise removing the oldest/longest unused operations and apps dumped in the ram and free it up for new operations and apps to run.

Also just checked how much brave is using through memory use (ram use) in Dev options and it's saying 389mb average total over hours of usage and max total ram usage was 753mb (I have 51 tabs on my brave browser too) so where you getting this "more than 1gb usage of ram"?

                6GB of ram? 🤣
Realistically, it would probably be OK if the OS is lightweight and there is little bloatware on the system and they don't kill apps in the background while the device is off, which makes the extra ram pointless anyways.

Good thing those places have access to the likes of Aya neos, One X, GPDs whose used prices (older models) are close to the cheapest Deck and perform even better.

Peter-B, 30 Jan 2023Qualcomm is mum on details and the Edge is the first device... moreJust a heads up, the device was advertised as 8GB before sales.
                                - Razer acknowledges they made an error, and they say you can send it back for a refund, but you must pay for a $15 restock fee. These practices are illegal in the EU and many first-world countries.
                                - On top of this, they are also saying as a sorry, they are willing to give you a $25 voucher to be spent on the Razer Website if you keep the device. There's really nothing you can buy there for that amount.
                                - The last point is that many reviewers have noticed 6GB RAM is not enough to run the Skyline Emulator. So that means no NSwitch emulation, for alot of people this is a pointless product.

There are other options in this market, like the USD $150 Retroid Pocket 3+ (dedicated and pocketable) and the $400 Valve SteamDeck (top tier, portable). You can also buy a Used Phone and Controller, as a dedicated solution OR use what you have around the house (Xbox Pad, Current Phone, etc etc). If you want something pocketable, there's still the Razer JungleCat, combine with Samsung S10+ (QSD 855), or with the OnePlus 9 Pro which fits into the same case as the Samsung Note9.

Early adopters are saying that the Razer Edge is benchmarking the same as a SD888.

So either the Razer Edge does not have a G3X, or Qualcomm is wrong about the G3X being 30% faster than the SD888.
