I have the same problem as most of the posts I see. But when I hold the phone upside down it stays working unless its bumped. I feel it's a pressure issue in the components.

Hiya...but why does it do it ?. My Xperia 5 is only 12 weeks old. I've never dropped it, no damage whatsoever. It just suddenly started to turn off and would not turn on. Then I got the dead alien symbol and I mashed the buttons together until it came on from past experience with other phones...then when it finally came back on... battery was 77% so nowhere near dead either...what is the reason my phone would do this?
I had Xperia 4 for a year, it was dropped a million times screen all smashed memory always full...it NEVER did that..it still turns on....
Also I really don't like this Xperia 5. The 4 was better and easier to use...the buttons are upside down on Xperia 5 😩 the volume is where the on off button is on Xperia 4 and the on off is where the volume should be...it's longer and thinner, has a mind of its own when it comes to spellings, it changes EVERYTHING..and a stupid floating keyboard that just starts floating randomly...
RANT OVER. LOOL
IM SO UNHAPPY WITH THIS JUNK PHONE. Is it likely to die again???

Last year I had quite a few of these that just suddenly died. Most of them simply needed a new battery. The ones Sony is using in these phones are complete trash. They get a high internal resistance faster than any other manufacturers I deal with and cant power the phone. Add on top of this all the other hardware and software issues Sony phones have and I am surprised they are a popular as they are.
They build some physical protections into a lot of their phones like waterproofing but they have the most delicate electronics I have ever seen. Its like the Sony VAIO curse is still going strong even though they axed that product line.

I bought this Xperia XZ1 a few months back. I t died...black screen. I regretted buying this instead of Samsung Galaxy 8. Sony has good camera features and that was the reason i bought this expensive phone. After searching in Google which directed to YouTube.com. Here the video by an Indian guy explained to hold start and volume slider button on the right side together, same time, for a while and then you will here the sound and turns in to white Sony screen. It started working fine now. Only still have keyboard progblem which didn't appear some times.

its Yr 2019 and sony has not solved this issue. My z5 just died and i think am going to burry it, so disappointed by Sony.

Oh thank you for this wonderful trick (holding power button and volume up at the same time!) This worked! My phone had gone flat and was not accepting charge. I needed to go out so left it on charger anyway (dead flat and no light showing ) when home, still nothing, no light, would not turn on.
Tried the above technique and saw white Sony light. Then flashed up 100% charged so then turned it on as normal. All good so far, thanks!

Sony should admit there's an obvious problem with their Xperia phones and do a recall with a refund to dissatisfied customers who believed Sony was a good company that stood behind its products. But their strategy is to ignore the complaints and pretend they know nothing. A legal firm should start a class action lawsuit against Sony. There's a billion dollars for every 2 million defective phones they sold at average cost of $500.

I've had the same issue now for just short of a month, and I have contacted Sony for a repair who say they can't repair my phone due to this issue, although I've seen many other people mention how this is how they got theirs sorted. Is there any other way of fixing the issue?

last week woke up at around 7:30am, my Sony xperia c5 was working well and was fully charged,went back to sleep and woke up at 10am only to find my phone dead.tried to put it back to charge and only the red light would show.have tried all sorts of methods to bring it back to life but none works for me.its such a disappointment from Sony really loved this phone.

Accepted (compulsory) Sony (software) upgrade, as there was no other option given.
I hate these upgrades and this one ended up to be no exception.
At first the phone worked much faster, but later that day I noticed the battery had dropped from 99% to 50% even though it was plugged in and I was not using it. A different cord allowed it to keep charge at the pace it was discharging (for a while) but after turning the phone off, I found that upon turning it back on, we were now down to 14%
Subsequently turning off every App I don't need managed to allow slow charge back to 20%, but within days the phone was down to a useless 5% and less.
There appears to be no fix for this, with purchaser waranty telling me that because the screen has a crack in it, they cannot fix the charging problem. The phone is less than 6 months old... and I continue to hate updates.
