I wonder if this will be the 7nm breakthrough that China was able to make only using DUV? Are they now able to mass produce the chip & if ever they did, it won't take long for them to go beyond 7nm without the help of US & its Western Puppets.

now i see why mediatek powered oppo phones are too easy to hack but complicated to unlock bootloader.

They'll probably pull a Xiaomi and launch in the middle and lower end of the segment. Hopefully, with enough time, it'll be good enough to pull through even in the flagship segment.

                        Cool
                        My options are always welcome

Having more soc on the market in smartphone is always a plus

I really do hope the Chinese under cut the us and sell cheaper and better

This will stop the western brands from price fixing the market so much

joe nodden, 21 Feb 2023In other words TSMC is making a new SoC. The SoC could possibly be using TSMC fabrication. Probably also using ARM cores in the process aswell.

This will sadly make them the next prime candidate for US sanctions. They stop buying from US companies so they are disposable and the fewer american components they buy the higher the chance. Smartphone market loses another competitor (or 4 if BBK as a whole gets banned) and the others increase prices further cause they can..

This is good to see. Since the Huawei ban it's been a bit boring for SOCs. It was Kirin chips that made Huawei so successful in China as it was something they had to stand out from other brands which all used the same chips and same components from the same third party companies. So far Oppo, Xiaomi or Vivo have not really managed to be successful in high end smartphone sales in China, like Huawei was a few years ago. They have only achieved a fraction of the sales Huawei did in the high end market. If any of the 3 major Chinese brands want to distinguish themselves from the others they will need their own chips to offer something different. Otherwise they are all just coming with more or less the exact same hardware with little to distinguish between them. Wouldn't be surprised if Xiaomi and Vivo also have plans for their own self-designed SOCs.
