850 USD for a phone that google sell for less than 50% of this price. i am starting to hate my goverment. it's because i know that this 500 USD are tax only. in brazil we are getting ripped off by our own goverment! they want us to stay poor and with no access to cheap quality hardware. they fear us and they hate us!

As a matter of fact, this price is somewhat cheap in terms of a high-end smartphone in Brazil. An Apple iPhone 5 is sold here for R$ 2600,00. It's like US$ 1300,00. Looking by this point of view, the price for the Brazilian Nexus 4 is not so high.
Foreign investments are bringing so much money to Brazil that prices are skyrocketing at a point that regular Brazilians simply can't afford paying for gadgets, cars or apartments without getting in debt with a bank.
And historically taxes and corporate profits are way above the practiced in other countries.
So: I have a nexus 4. And as my PC video card, my Shure headphones, my home theater, my Nikon camera... I had it brought from the USA. It's the only way.

LG must turn a profit from this phone somewhere, it´s logical to assume it does here in Brazil...

It´s sad that Brazil was the 30th country to receive Nexus 4 but Brazil is the 4th country in Android sells.

Mihael, 28 Mar 2013If there was mistake with the R missing in $, then probably... moreNope. "O Nexus 4 de 16GB está disponível para venda a partir de hoje por R$ 1.699,00, desbloqueado e sem plano, nas lojas e sites da Fast Shop e Ponto Frio."
Meaning, in a non-auto translation, "the 16GB Nexus 4 is available starting today for R$1699,00, unlocked and without carrier plan, at Ponto Frio and Fast Shop physical and online stores."

Only in Brazil we have those EXTREMELY HIGH PRICES.
In Chile, iPhone 4S 16GB = US Dollars $635
In Brazil, iPhone 4S 16GB = US Dollars $1092
Both unlocked. Both from official carriers sales channels.

Hicham, 28 Mar 2013Buy from google play and ship it!!!!No option for international shipping. Plus, Google blocks the page when you try to access from other countries (nothing that a proxy can't handle, but still they don't ship international)

AnonD-129979, 28 Mar 2013I live in Romania and this phone is priced with 850US Dolars...I also happen to live in Romania and if you would check the prices on any online store like emag or pcgarage you would see that it varies from 500$ to 550$. It seems that you got a bad deal on your phone.

Unfortunatelly this phone is not subsidized by Google here in Brazil, but it will be a success just as iPhone and Samsumg Galaxy 3 costing even more than this Nexus. Our taxes are too high and corporate profits is also high, so the price is an absurd, and we even have a Foxxcon factory here producing iPhones and iPads in large scale, but the price remains high.

Anonymous, 28 Mar 2013everything is more expensive in Latin America than in the U... moreoh in case you didn't got my point, is simply that governments here prefer NOT to charge products which can hurt local economy such as food (which is most Latin American countries produce), and charge that which they do not make, ok i know we do make some devices, some samsung phones are made in Brazil, and they also produce airplanes, but lets face it.. we latins are far from being developed... :( and this kind of politics do not help at all

If there was mistake with the R missing in $, then probably there is also mistake with the price written. It would make sense if its R$699, not R$1,699, this would make it exactly the same price as in US when converted.

everything is more expensive in Latin America than in the USA, some phones go even to be sold about 5 times its US price, this is part is due to the incredible amount of taxes electronic devices have, funny thing is that other IMPORTED products such as rice and some fruits do not have such taxes (they are expensive tho), that my friends is how you can easily point any underdeveloped country

here in indonesia, Nexus 4 price is quite high too.
at first launch it priced at around US$550.
but to go higher than that is ridiculous, better off with 1080p phone.
