Octa-core Galaxy S4 benchmarks surface, live up to expectations

28 March, 2013
Interestingly, the SoC is reported to run at 1.8GHz rather than the official 1.6GHz as Samsung said.

Jackson Joshua, 28 Mar 2013You are so right! The S3 needed an over clocked 1.4GHZ quad... moreThe problem is not in Apple hardware, the problem here is Apple iOS features and multitasking process. I own an HTC One S android phone and an iPad 4 (The latest). I prefer the android system in phones. Though I admit the stability of the iPad is better than android tablets, I miss andoriod features in my iPad.

Lol, the results speak for themselves, I think it's clear that the S4 is definitely the best phone to get right now. And why is everyone bringing in iPhones and HTCs to the discussion. Everyone knows that Sammy make the best phones and Apple make the best tablets, just get both and stop complaining...

not impressive. i expected around 30k in Antutu of the "Best phone ever". by the way, htc one scores 25k on youtube review with only 1,7Ghz quad core.

Anonymous, 28 Mar 2013And what is galaxy s4 new technology?!!! you call that gimm... moreNew technology in the S4?

                  - First phone to utilise Octa-core chipsets which is more then just numbers. It provides solid performance better then any device so far but the Four A7 cores will provide efficiency which in the end is what users want; more battery power. So you can't say sammy are just going for numbers or marketing tricks because the octa core is also there to provide greater battery power due to its higher efficiency.

                  - Air Gesture/Hover: Genuis innovations. No other phones utilise these marvelous additions by Sammy. And there not gimmicky, ofc if you're a Apple/One fanboy then naturally you'll be jealous and cover that with your "oh it's gimmicky" excuses. Keep hating Lmao

                  - Smart Alert/Rotate/Pause/Scroll and more. Nuff said.

                  - Dual Video recording another great addition.

These are just a few innovations/additions to the S4 that makes it stand out, don't worry there's plenty more but I'd rather not produce an essay here.

AnonD-77859, 28 Mar 2013The xperia z is technically with the snapdragon 600, called... moreNo, they are different ones actually even though they share the same name. The Snapdragon 600's in HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4 are different in that the manufacturers of the chipsets are not the same. 600 in HTC One is from TSMC while 600 in GS4 made by none other than Samsung themselves. That's why the 600 of GS4 can have higher clock(1.9GHz) than that of HTC One(1.7GHz). The reference clock of 600 is actually 1.9GHz but TSMC can't make it to that supposed clock because their tech in 28nm process is not that good as Samsung's.

Well, I believe the most people say the design sucks is because other people said so about the SGS3, and this one packs the same design language. In real life this phone shines though, the display covers so much of the front and it's so perfect that really, the feel of the phone is amazing because of it alone.

Now back to the benchmarks, which is what this article is about in the first place - it's the fastest phone and all, but I have to admit that I expected a little better from the A15 quad core. Sure, it's like 20% faster than the nearest competition but I still expected the first A15 to wipe the floor with Krait 300. The best part is that there'll be a second pair of cores for energy saving.

I will say that apple is not good if it is really not good, but it is not what you say
I was telling the truth that Samsung should learn from HTC , SONY how to build the shell

I also am thankful to Samsung who gave me Jelly Bean which is really nice and better than before

spike, 28 Mar 2013You really think performance is more important in the long ... moreThat's subjective. Looks are subjective but specs/capability of a phone isn't. Technology and innovation is slowing down. Next generation of CPU/GPU chipsets get produced and supplied every 2/3 years so next years flaghships won't be that far ahead of the S4/One/OptimusG etc
Looks however change very rapidly. Taste/Fashion/Design trends change at a much more rapid rate, what might look good now will be obselete in the future when the latest phones look FAR better however that maybe. Design is temporary. You'll love its design in the first month or two but eventually you'll get worn of that awesome design you loved so much. Once the design fad is gone it's the inside that will count and that's where true smartphones succeed in unlike the One. #Shame

The higher Antutu bench... morespot on answer my friend, with all the lawsuits flying around covering every single piece of a phone these days its no wonder why designers are struggling, but there is also only so much you can do with a piece of glass, lets face it lots of phones look similar nowadays, and with nokia and sony having squared edges and iphone sueing for everything else, what is sammy to do, stick with what they know and improve (EVOLUTION) as you say, this and the other s4 are clearly the top dogs in terms of performance, and in my view i will buy them for this, not for looks, something like 75% of iPhone users also use a case so whats the point of a good looking phone, when not only can it not hardly be seen but also that it can not perform high end things like HD gaming or HD movies or lack of connectivity or codec support or customization or.....the list goes on, its like saying would you prefer a beautiful looking girl with NO PERSONALITY and NO BRAINS? or just a good looking girl with brains and and personality HMMM....i know my choice

LOL people like yourself claiming to know the inside-outs of phones but your statement just deprived you of any credibility.
The iPhone 5 is NOT faster based on CPU. It was beating the S3 in benchmarks related to its GPU because at THAT TIME the iPhone5 had the best GPU chipset in the PowerVR SGX543 triple core graphics..and the only reason it won against the S3 in GPU related benchmarks was because Samsung intentionally used a last gen GPU chipset.

Now if you wanna talk about pure speed and raw combination of capability then look at Antutu/Quadrant etc and in those fields the iPhone 5 will get demolished..ever wonder why the iphone5 is not on the top 5/6 list of Quadrant/Antutu in phone reviews? Because it's dual cr*p is outdated and has nothing on the major Quad's of Android.
The S3 is FAR quicker and infact on that note with the Jelly bean update the S3 caught up significantly on the graphics table although benchmarks wise the iP5 has the upper hand..learn your stuff before you post uneducated trash, thank you.

EDIT: Another thing you got wrong was the QuadCore variant of the S3 never had 2GB RAM. The USA SD variant did have 2GB RAM but that thing was dual core.
