The iPhone SE isn't dead anymore, to be resurrected as iPhone 14 clone for next year

It's got an OLED display and an Apple-made 5G baseband chip.

An iPhone SE in the body of the iPhone 12/13 mini would've been the ideal solution. I'm still hoping for Apple to go for it, especially because there's already a phone that exists to serve the purpose of what the incoming SE is intended as. Heck even an iPhone XR redo at $400 would do. An iPhone SE with the body/specs of iPhone 14, at $400? Yeah, not happening anytime sooner.

So there's gonna be an SE Plus too right? RIGHT?

AnonD-1022549, 28 Feb 2023let's not kid ourselves here, there are specs on the i... moreCheaper than what the 14 series launched at sure, still not ‘cheap’ though. I will be truly shocked if it came out at less than the $600 price mark.

Bear in mind that even those looking at an SE are still looking at an iPhone, just the cheapest one available. Tempting them with the already bloated yet ever increasing line of budget androids with their dazzling sounding but endlessly confusing array of some times poorly implemented, sometimes totally useless specs isn’t going to make a difference. Apple are aware of this, and it affords them some latitude when pricing.

So whilst I would agree Apple could release a 14 series based SE for cheaper than what they likely will, I don’t think they could get it down to earlier SE model ranges. And they have no real interest in pricing it aggressively when compared to the 1000 or so budget android devices seemingly announced on the daily.

The iPhone 14 chassis? No way. I'm already willing to bet money that it won't sell well at all. There's no shortage of expensive 6.1" phones both in the market overall and the iPhone lineup. The iPhone 13 mini should have been the phone of choice. People who bought the mini were more in the "mini" market rather than the flagship market. People buying the SE phones aren't in the flagship market either. If they want to keep SE around as a cheaper entry point into the Apple ecosystem, the mini makes that much more sense.

B.S. why the hell it should be on iphone 14 and not the 13 mini? and why on the world it would be OLED instead of LCD? that would save much on the manufacturing cost and in turn the price of the phone. they could even put a 90Hz panel instead of the 120Hz and still release the phone for the same price as the last SE device!

              I don't know.
In the end it is all about the pricing, whether this truly is still a SE,
assumed that SE was the bread and butter iPhone
for users who primarily need an iPhone, no matter the features.
I can't figure this to be still in the 400-500 CUR price bracket.
So the effective news might actually be:
APPLE moved the pricing base line up by at least 200 CUR, away from the SE2 levels.
How that then fosters their service product strategy?
              I don't know.

AyysLmao, 28 Feb 2023I think it's bad news for apple users who buy the phon... moreWhere have you been? When I was jobless, I had an iphone 4s when the latest top end devices at that time were an iphone 5 and galaxy note 3 lol.

Apple premium was a myth when you have hand-me-down iphones all over the place. Or iphones bought at credit.

And phone show-off times have long passed.

AnonD-1022549, 28 Feb 2023finally, an SE that won't suck ass now it's down... moreWell pricing will be key, and I personally cannot see an SE based on the 14 series releasing next year for anything less than a $600 starting price at an absolute minimum, and quite likely it’ll be higher than that.

And personally I think that defeats the whole purpose of the SE line in the first place, many people mistakenly think it was to be small, it wasn’t. That was just a byproduct of the legacy designs used. Being as cheap as possible was the SE’s primary purpose. I think an SE based on something like the XR and aiming at a $400ish starting price makes much more sense.

If this is true though then the whole iPhone line up is going to need a thorough clear out next year in order to fit this in anyway. And that could be just what Apple is thinking here. Do away with what remains of the 12 then all of the 13, 14 series and just have this SE along with the 15, 15 Pro and maybe this Ultra, and thus having an iPhone line up of models going from $600+ (though $649 or even $679 is more likely) all they way up to…..well it’s Apple, so something quite high.

I saw even shop clerks with latest Android phones or whatever.
Bottom line, almost everybody can afford a good smartphone nowadays (in rates, loans, through mobile contracts, etc.).
The ones that don't have latest phones, they just don't care about phones and have other important things in their lives, or other hobbies, or whatever.

Ricky, 28 Feb 2023Why is Apple still using low refresh rate screens in 2023? ... moreI purchased a 150EUR Android phone with 120Hz refresh rate. True, it was second hand, but new Android model of phone (late 2022 model).
Still, the phone lags sometimes (in scrolling or in basic usage). Compared that to my previous iPhone 11 (with 60Hz refresh rate), which was buttery smooth.
Bottom line, doesn't matter if a phone has 120Hz display, if the rest of the phone is low-end, you will experience lag.
For me, entry level Android phones with 120Hz are just useless. Is there just to take the eyes of possible customers.

I think it's bad news for apple users who buy the phone just to show off now that it is accessible to low budget consumers.

If this rumour will end up to be truth, it should be really nice.
I mean, initially, it was rumoured that the next iPhone SE4 will be exactly like an iPhone XR, just with newer chipset (which is bad phone for 2023 standards; even Apple standards; practically all iPhones use Oled panels nowadays, except iPhone SE3).
But now, if they will actually make an iPhone 14 clone, with price of an iPhone 11 for example, it will be very nice. Even a clone of an iPhone 12 or 13 will be nice.
Hopefully it will not cost more than 500EUR.
If this will be the case, it will sell like a good ice cream in a summer day.

The price would be $499 this time
It'll be the same as iphone 13, but with Apple's 5G chip

Then this certainly means iPhone 15 series will come with Dynamic Island
