Apple A17 Bionic to drive high demand for iPhone 15 Pro duo

03 March 2023
The new chip by TSMC will be just one of the main key features, driving a “replacement demand”.

Sin, 03 Mar 2023I think cooling system becoming more important overtime as ... moreiPhones already have an energy saving mode which gives the SoC less power to work with, and I think I have seen that Macs have a full on setting which allows for „high performance, balanced, energy saving“ like Windows has. Maybe that will come to iPhone as well in the future, I think I‘d definitely use the energy saving setting then for the first couple of years.

Chip makers should now try to make their stuff power efficient rather than chasing outright performance. It's pointless, cause processors are already quite powerful, and great battery life is what matters more than anything else these days

I'll choose a lesser powerful processor anyday over the most powerful out there, if it gets me significantly more battery life

Phone companies, take note: Battery life and the battery itself must be innovated and worked on, that's the thing consumers require the most currently 🔋

I believe the better processor will matter. Not so much in performance you can feel directly in s.th. like snappyness, but in power stamina.
And most of all: the performance required for all that AI magic that is going to be the core of the next hype cycle. And in this regards the new SoC is also future proofing the customer.
But still i believe, the most important iPhone in 2023/24 will be the SE4, not the Ultra.

Most iPhone users don't even know what SOC they have.
I can't possibly imagine how A17 would be a game changer to them, let alone driving high demand for the iPhone 15 family. New colors maybe.
But the yearly chip renewal ? They couldn't care less.

The efficiency improvements will not matter if they dial up the performance by a similar amount. They should rather focus on making iOS not shit, the gesture controls are just bad compared to Android, so is the lack of a HiRes bluetooth codec, the bugs they don't seem to quite get ahold of and so on. It went from that easy to use, stable OS to something perfectly fine but lacking behind. "It just works" is a farce nowadays, nor do they implement "better" features anymore, when they do copy from others, it's often worse in fact. No clue what happened, but the magic of an iPhone died years ago

With their exorbitant prices, the demand will surely drop.

UltraHD, 03 Mar 2023Now you'll get everything you wanted on an iPhone, i guess.Nope. First - still no fingerprint sensor. Apple always has some kind of argument for that but nowadays we got multiple solutions they can use. Second - USB-C is coming but of course with limitations because of the Apple's certification of the cables. Third - come on! They can fit a bigger battery capacity into device with dimensions like that. It's a device for more than 1K, users deserve it. Fourth - that pill shaped "punch" hole is big and interrupting. And for me, still looks outdated like the notch.

Definitely worth it if a expensive soc is made have heat pipe custom robust active cooling systems

Yeah it's possible make a more efficient cooler chipset could definitely focus more on power efficiency in instead of performance

I could definitely see the benefits of additional battery life and the average person most likely will notice this more

As I think most people settle down with enough smoothness and then mostly just want more battery life each year

I don't think apple ever going give it's users the ability choice anything for themselves

iPhone sure are extremely expensive so
I generally expect them offer more for the money

As apple often offers very little in turn for a very high asking price lives short lifespan often too top it off

It‘s not comfortable to hold the phone then either. Apple fully focusing on efficiency of the chip is the right move in my view. Using an iPhone with A13 feels a lot better than using one with A10 for example, because of the much more efficient chip which means the phone doesn’t heat up really at any time, compared to pretty much all the time.

Some said there was a chip shortage so maybe they couldn‘t put the A16 on all models. Furthermore, the A16 was such a small upgrade anyway, that maybe Apple thought it wouldn’t make a difference for users. Though the 6 GB vs 4 GB do make a difference, I‘d say it‘s arguably a bigger difference than between A15 and A16. And it‘s not guaranteed the A16 will get longer software support, because the last two times support was discontinued, they dropped 2 Chip generations at once.

Holy hell, when will you guys realize once and for all that only a few people care about the whole A17 Bionic and 8 Gen2 stuff. How can you make a connection between a phone cpu and "35% higher demand" boggles the mind. You're not buying a Ryzen CPU for your desktop PC, people are gonna buy the iphone 15 because they have older iphones and they want to stick with what they know.

Of course, apple fanboys and shareholders will keep pushing the same narrative, but the tech community is honestly so insanely out of touch with everyone else that they will make claims such as a phone cpu driving a high demand.

I don’t think so. Not even the oldest supported iPhone, the iPhone 8, is slow. Sure it will have slightly longer battery life than its predecessor because of the more efficient chip, but battery life has been fine on mainline iPhones since the XR, and on Pro iPhones since the 11 Pro.
