Anonymous, 12 Mar 2023Of course they won't. They are just following Samsung,... moreMan since IP rating is nothing but costly gimmick it doesnt matter wheter the phone have or dont have it,
Still no manufacturer or company is willing to include water damage into a regular warranty of your phone. So even an IP rated phone if it gets water damage yu have to pay very expensive repair.
So once again water resistant phones are nothing but an useless gimmick just like flippable and foldable touch phones where no main screen can survive even Jerryrigeverything mohs pick 2.

Any bar phone even a low cost one is definitely more durable than so called flip or fold phone and nothing will change this fact unless corning or any other glass company does not plant invent folding but shatterproof and scratchproof screen.
Same goes for IP rating.
As long as phones arent waterproof and they are just water resistant the whole fuss about IP rating is not worth even my 2 cents nor my attention is simple as that.

3 years of major updates...will be in time these updates?

Foldables? No they wont as they are totally different. Rollables tought... Rollables would most likely replace High-end phones. (With Rollables, protecting glass is a simple deal, it wont be plastic or at least not for too long)

Well yeah, untill they solve the durability and price issues compared to standard phones, most people won't even be interested, and even if they solve those things it probably won't be enough for people to change what they like.

It's obvious with classic design being camera centric and new folds being poorly designed for big sensors. Anyone can see that.
Problem lies in design, not in new technology. Foldables bring more screen to pocket. They just need to bring flagship cameras too, not just some gimmick cutouts.

He is correct, considering the fact that the best selling Android phones are cheap Android phones such as Samsung’s Galaxy A13 and A03 models, it’s quite clear the market does not value android phones highly, so why would the market suddenly care to spend +\- $1600 on an android foldable?

In fact, a few people in this very comment section have mentioned that it is the 4th or 5th year of Samsung selling foldables globally, that is quite sad given they are still such a puny part of the market, if they have not managed to even outsell the likes of an S22 Ultra at this point it’s quite clear that foldables will remain a niche market and possibly die out due to how much more expensive they are to build, repair and how much more software development time they require.

I can see the Flip foldables sticking around for a while but the likes of the book type foldables may end up dying out in a few years, with the Z Fold sticking around a little longer than the rest.

If Apple launch a foldable they could easily bring life into this market but I have my doubts about them being interested in this market outside of doing some R&D for other devices.

If foldables don’t get rid of the plastic screen, and stay much less durable and expensive to repair, I could see them just being a fad that will wear out over time, like curved TVs. People who had them and had them break easily will not buy another one. Also, I think people are realizing again that ergonomics are important on phones as well, and Foldables are thick and heavy. So the bar phones are very big and heavy now, but they will get at least a bit smaller and lighter again, maybe around the size and weight of an iPhone 14 (not-Pro). I also see how many Android manufacturers have established 5000mAh as the standard battery size to aim for and design the phone around that. And they started advertising the thickness of the phone, like 7.99mm or 7.89mm. And thinner phones are inheritely lighter. Battery technology still improves even if at a slow pace. But when they can put that 5000mAh cell into a phone with a 6.2 inch display, they will do it. I hope we even get size options back but I don’t know if that will catch on in the ranges that are not flagship.

marketing nonsense ... do foldables ???
                      - has bigger battery ???
                      - microxd card ???
                      - 3.5 mm plug ... preferable AND ... 2.5 mm ballanced audiophile grade plug ???
                      - bio sensor ???
                      - thermal camera ???
even expensive bar phones don't have those ... so ... whats the use of bringing 2 thick phones that can be folded ??? if you can fold the screen, make it roll !!!

Of course they won't. They are just following Samsung, just for not being labelled as non-foldables brand.

This is already the 5th year of Samsung foldable and still no other manufacturer that could create foldables with IP rating and good software integration.👍

Nah I'm not gonna exchange my bar phone with a foldable as of the moment even if they priced similarly. I might try one for wow factor and out of curiosity, but I'm not gonna exchange it in the long run unless the foldable has better design when folded compared to bar phone.

It won't. As good as it is some limitation still persist gonna be a while before foldables are mainstream for the masses.

Rollable for phones? It will never be more than a niche form or might go the way of curved screens altogether.

                                Clamshell all the way baby!

He's repeating what Samsung already said and their best expectations is to outsell the S Line by 2025. The majority of droid phones sold worldwide are entry level to midrange. How are you going to convince those people to buy a phone that is $1000-$1600 more than what they are paying now? It's not going to happen unless the price drops significantly.

Samsung is the market leader and they are far more invested in foldables than anyone else so I'm not sure why we needed Honor's opinion on this. The other manufacturers are just in it for F.O.M.O.
