Daemon Targaryen, 09 Mar 2023I personally don't mind the narrow screen at the front... moreI think the Fold series has three major things holding it back:
      1. Visible crease down the middle. (Waterdrop hinge is supposed to fix it this generation.)
      2. Lack of integrated S-Pen holder.
      3. Price ($1800USD?! In this economy?!)

On the other hand, the Flip only suffers from #1, and it is a lot more popular than people give it credit. I've probably seen as many Flips in public as I have all Google Pixels. The price tag of the Fold makes it into more of a concept device for techies, while the Flip has wider appeal, and is even able to compete even with the iPhone (which is how Samsung is marketing it if you've noticed).

sa11oum, 09 Mar 2023Samsung are really resting on their laurels with the Fold s... moreLike pen support isnt a super big thing for such a device 😂

I personally don't mind the narrow screen at the front. When closed, Fold 4 is around 67 mm. The S23 Ultra is at 78 mm. I'm aware typing can be an issue and no S-Pen support at the front. But I agree with Adam Matlock of Tech Odyssey. I'd rather have the Fold 4 over S23U.

The much overhyped S23U is too wide and the sides aren't as round. The S-Pen is like a toothpick and the screen is too narrow to use it. I know some went from a Fold back to an Ultra. Maybe they need a better camera or want better battery life. I get all that. But I think I prefer getting a Fold 5 over S23U just for that bigger canvas for the S-Pen and something unique over a typical large slab.

One-handed comfort seems to be better on the Fold when closed even though it's thicker and heavier. The width and flatter sides of the Ultras can be too cumbersome.

          Fold 4 (folded): 155.1 x 67.1 x 14.2-15.8 mm, 263 g
          S23 Ultra: 163.4 x 78.1 x 8.9 mm, 234 g

I don't think you can go wrong with either one. The word "best" is subjective like the word "beauty". What might be the best phone for you might not be to someone else. I prefer my phones to be small that easily fits in my pocket, which is I prefer the Flip over the Fold and Ultra.

Some people say, "Well that doesn't make sense. Why would anyone want to keep flip opening their phone? An extra step." Well, many of us started with flip phones. We've gotten used to it. What we want is portability over things like S-Pen and cameras. And clamshells do protect that bigger display.

Is it going to be a 6.2" 21:9? That'll make a lot of sense since current Sony phones use 21:9. Even Motorola's Moto G100 has a 21:9 screen.

YassEON, 09 Mar 2023Ok... So basically I still have no reason to upgrade from m... moreAh the Galaxy S9/S9 Plus, the last Samsung S series phones that had the notification LED, iris scanner, a display without cutouts and a fast rear mounted fingerprint scanner. I still have the S9 Plus, and it's still one hell of a phone.

Sure 60Hz seems "slow", but it's HDR performance and overall display quality STILL holds up extremely well today. The other aspects are also great too.

Would love to see improvements ro the cameras. Most other things were great already. And a better and more efficient SoC should improve battery life noticeably.

If theres no competition then theres no change.

sa11oum, 09 Mar 2023Samsung are really resting on their laurels with the Fold s... moreSamsung has gotten so lazy because they have reached "Apple level". Samsung has achieved to build up a hype around its brand, so people will buy samsung because they believe it's the best you can get. Reviewers and even GSMARENA always compare Samsung with Apple but almost never with other brands like Huawei, Honor, Oppo, Vivo etc. This way, people see Samsung as the "Android's Apple". Samsung can charge any price, but for customers it will always be justified due to Samsung products "being undeniably the best" by any means.

Now samsung has a competitor . No more time to relax

Samsung are really resting on their laurels with the Fold series. Nothing really substantial has changed since Fold2, and judging by this screen size it seems it will be more of the same for the Fold5. I wonder why they've gotten this lazy.

its means the phone the same just new chip and cameras ,shame Samsung cant deliver a new bigger screens ,no gap device like the others!

So another boring upgrade that essentially looks the same as the Fold 3 and 4? I'm guessing the Flip 5 will have the most drastic design change this year with the larger cover display. I still prefer the S21 Ultra design from 2021 over the S22 and S23 Ultras.

I'd still get the Fold 5 just for Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Finally a worthy Qualcomm chip that's both fast and efficient.
