How does this "third-gen" 4nm Samsung Node compare to TSMC on Power Efficiency and Performance? It can get better in transistor density, and that's good, but if it doesn't stay competitive in the performance and energy front, Samsung will keep being left out of the big and important contracts. It seems that Google and Samsung want to keep them afloat (it's bad for their business to rely solely on TSMC in the future), but they need to improve their results. Hopefully, 3rd gen 4nm will help to recover from the 5nm Fiasco.

8Gen1+ is 40% better performance per watt compared to 8Gen1, both chips have the exact same design on persumably the same nm node. Samsung node is so bad even their own phones stopped using their in-house chips anymore

once upon a time ... a post ...
A recent media report that Samsung has established an internal team dedicated to CPU core development is not true. Contrary to the news, we have long had multiple internal teams responsible for CPU development and optimization while constantly recruiting global talents from relevant fields.
what does it really mean ??? why refuting a fact that samsung actually begin mass production of 3rd gen 4nm chipsets by posting news about internal dedicated team for cpu core development ??? to calm down some angry bosses ???

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2_nm_process
its just the need ... to push beyond boundaries ... and make the customer pay for their toys
even for the marketing term 2nm process, the physical gates still larger than 10 nm
why dont try to re-produce old 28nm process wafer in 4nm facility ... must be super efficient and super cool ... and the apps ... stop to mining customer devices, especially games, just let the customer play undistracted by ads and perhaps background mining

Jango5, 14 Mar 2023i mean no one really wants their old gen 4nm, since it was ... moreDefinitely can do both
Extended production of old chips is just cheaper why I like this opinion
But yeah definitely a place for new chips as well but there going come at a haftly production cost
You said overheating well
That's because Samsung hasn't learned how too keep the soc cool
Samsung needs improvements On cooling solutions
like having better cooling system like heat pipes active fans vapor chambers air vent custom loop water cooling system with ice cubes
Give few ideas the flagship soc sure do run hot on phones that's for sure

You're avenge person doesn't need 4mm third gen chipset
Smartphones are already way too damn expensive
This is just going be expensive change I much prefer extended production of older chipset for the mainstream
As only a handful of people actually need 4nm or can afford it

Anonymous, 14 Mar 2023After 4 nm, 3nm,2nm,1nm. Then, ---1nm, --2nm, etcIt's actually very reasonably to start thinking about this, because once, they get to 1nm, then what next. They need to start developing other ways of improving phone efficiency and power other than this. Whether they like it or not, one day not too long from now, they will get to 1nm.

I'm sorry this is wrong. Customers don't generally pay for wafers it depends on the contract. In Samsungs case most customers only paid for functional chips because their yield is so bad.

Anonymous, 14 Mar 2023After 4 nm, 3nm,2nm,1nm. Then, ---1nm, --2nm, etcLol, learn your physics before we were on nano part we were on the micro part, so after we reach below 1nm we simply move towards Pico, something like 900pm stuff and start all over again.
