Silentwalker, 16 Mar 2023You have no idea what you are talking about. In today'... moreSamsung is known to throttle your phone with updates after a year of release like apple (plus they nerf your battery to make it worse) and they still do it in 2023 so the 4* years of updates just means samsung is restricting your phone each year to force you to buy their newest £1400 flagship.

Also they are right, most people get their phone on contract so upgrade every 2 years and at that point your flagship is now a mid ranger and will have a minimum of 1 year of updates still. By the 4th year your flagship is barely a mid ranger.

Silentwalker, 16 Mar 2023Just reading this comment alone shows me you don't kno... moreEven with a fully up to date phone with the latest security patch you can get malware attacks and back door viruses including new vulnerabilities just like on a pc. If someones an idiot opening up any link they find on an email or going on dodgy sites or downloading any app off the play store/apk you have a chance of being attacked. Download a decent free anti virus scanner and a good web browser like Brave and you shouls be sweet.

Also no you can roll back updates atleast on google made apps and just download a previous version of an app off the web or download a 3rd party app store, they let you install previous versions of apps.

A phone won't stop working without updates. Of course by the time passes Google will stop supporting old Android versions, but we are talking about a very long time so it doesn't matter here. Even now 99% of my apps run fine on Android 7.

I believe S... moreMost people buying a midrange phone have no clue what are software updates or security patches, what they do or even the fact that it's a feature on their phones. I know people who never update anything on their phones because they have no clue what that even means. That's the majority unfortunately.
You're talking about a niche of people that should actually stick to high-end phones.
Would you actually choose better software support over better hardware? I wouldn't.

You know that if your phone ... moreJust reading this comment alone shows me you don't know what I am talking about. Mate there is alot of wild malware which can cause some serious damage on your phone. Not everyone is like you that don't store their personal data on the phone or flash custom roms. Most people are generic and only use their phone as normal, their who life is on that phone. Just because you don't update your phone, doesnt mean others shouldn't, you are taking that risk it is your own problem. As for what issues can occur, some phones crash and sometimes updates fixes it. Also eventually phones won't be able to use certain apps as support will eventually drop the old Android OSes. Now what you don't know by the looks of it is that Google is starting to change how apps will appear on the play store where they will only support newer versions not old versions of android.
