Rayrick1603, 28 Mar 2023Smartphone companies have been producing the same for under... moreYeah, we've pretty much plateaued in terms of the traditional slate/candybar type of phone.
We're nearing the end of silicon-based computing. TSMC and Samsung are taking some time to jump from 5nm to 3nm nodes, can only expect it will take longer for the intervals between the next node advancements. Band-Aid solution is just to increase the power consumption for faster computing, which is why we have vapor chamber cooling in our phones.
Battery is at its limit as long as we're using lithium-based ones. Band-Aid solution is faster charging. Solid state is on the rise though.
Display is also at its peak when it comes to LCD and OLED types. MiniLED is supposedly the next big thing but it's too expensive as of now.
Cameras are limited as the sensors used are tiny compared to your professional DSLR cameras. The ongoing trend now might be those 1" cameras, but still haven't experienced using one so I can't comment on it.
Software is already mature for both Android and iOS, so improvements will only be incremental.
The next big thing would probably be those foldable/rollable phones. But as long as their exorbitant price and long-term durability isn't solved, it will stay as a luxury product line.

Smartphone companies have been producing the same for under new name each year for like the last 3 years and people just buy them. What's wrong with technology?

i bet its a 800 euro phone. If it is, then it's a solid no. I would rather go to Oneplus or any other brand for that price point. At least i got a phone with a huge security support and once its over, oneplus is one of its major supporting Rom platform in XDA community.
Something that Motorola is seriously lacking

They are nailing on hardware but not so much on camera results and software support. It's true, I have the edge 30 ultra and I'm still using Android 12 up to this day. I could forgive if it was a 200€ phone ,but a flagship there's simply no excuse for that

Never again Motorola. I own an Edge 30 Fusion and it's still running Android 12 with security updates for 3 months?! Motorola accessories drown out Google notifications and more. Total failure and as far as Motorola is concerned, NEVER AGAIN!

I know the Edge 40 Pro will be a rebranded Edge X40. What I'm curious is the vanilla Edge 40. Pretty sure Dimensity 8020 is a typo since there isn't such chipset exist?

Why doesn’t Moto offer a smaller phone, around 6 inches in its lineup? I like Motorola phones , but they are all way too big . So ended up getting a 6.1 in Pixel 6a as my new phone.

Motorola OS updates schedule is terrible even for devices on Snapdragon (in spite of all promises). So, I guess updates for devices on Mediatek will never arrive.

Don't ever buy a MediaTek as long they don't upstream it to open source, it's like buying a toaster that not been safety tested, upstream it so everyone can look at the code
