I'd LOVE to be able to buy OEM versions of phones, containing JUST the phone in a tiny packaging. It could surely be like 30$ cheaper.
I have dozens of headsets already, and at least a few chargers, including tablet chargers which are fast enough for any smartphone and also as small. I'm pretty sure most people replacing their smartphones every 2 years are also like this. This would contribute incredibly to the environment and also severly to prices. They could easily make the packaging 1/3 of a size of a full box with everything.

thefearfulsilence, 04 Apr 2013Interesting, but what if a fault develops whilst you are us... moreA Charger costs £2.99 so they would most likely just replace the charger for you

not gonna comments if this is the right move, but these HTC anti are surely DUMB! except the propriety port used by you know who, all microusb are 5V, WTF are you talking about damaging the battery? it is true some wall charger have higher amp output to charge the battery quicker but it is actually recommend to charge the battery as slow as you can bear. heat is the no.1 enemy of all electronic, keeping it cool will prolong their life.

      get your fact right, ANTI!

Interesting, but what if a fault develops whilst you are using one of your own supposedly numerous remaining wall plugs adapters? Can they promise us that they will still honour the handset's warranty?
Maybe someone from O2 could assure us officially that warranties will remain intact because I fear that we may essentially be forced in to buying the 'approved' O2 wall plug adapter anyway - which on their UK website is a complete joke of a price at £13.

just had a look on the O2 website. this is the charging plug that they give you a discount on.
            http://accessoryshop.o2.co.uk/o2-5--mains-charger

Not sure how much discount. As far as i can see, its unbranded and it has no specs on the voltage and ampage. This could spell disaster for HTC one owners on O2. My advise to anyone in situation is to buy the official charger from HTC. Not this poundland rip off that will probaly break in a week.

Anonymous, 04 Apr 2013yeah but it will cost you. This a O2 thing not HTCThe time it takes to charge is definately differ from the type of charger you use. But it will not effect the battery performance. I believe it is a right move for atleast mobiles as every one will have many chargers at home to use.

I believe the facts are the phone doesn't come with a charger but...if you haven't got one and ask for one O2 will supply one to you from their customer services!

A good scheme for the environment!

Every type of battery has a different charging cicle, with different Amps and Volts. Using a different charger than the one sent with your phone, the battery will lose its refference performance. I did that for some time, and the battery of one of my S2`s whent bust after 2 months. The phones for wich I used the supplied charger had no problems with the battery. Is a good initiative, but I don`t think that they thought this through carefully.

So are they gonna deduct the price of the charger on any of their services or the phone itself. This feels more like a scheme to get more money out of customers' pockets. That's almost 5-10 dollars at the very least per customer. Say, you came from a low end phone that only has 500mA charging capacity while the one supposedly for a HTC One is 1.0A to make it charge faster, then you're on a losing end already. I smell greed more than really helping the environment.

                          Pissed off with this scheme.
Most of the charger, regardless Apple, Samsung, Motorola, LG, Sony, Nokia. Never last 100%!

the old charger, will spoil when it's about time.
give me the Whole Charger! Damn it HTC.

#facts: most charger are spoiled, and still kept in the house.
NOT : many working charger in the house!

Also, HTC is taking on too many tasks at a time. Link them.

Even the HTC One is not so much 'one', it depends on the region:

And last but not least, HTC seems to have kicked the Butterfly away. Its role as the first full HD phone is over, and they couldn't care less about it now that they have brought out the One. HTC's strategy makes me shudder.

Its such a lame scheme. What about exchange old charger with old one's then provide discount, in that sense everyone will be convinced that you really care with the environment.
