DxOMark: Oppo Find X6 Pro is the best cameraphone yet

It's no surprise with those big sensors.

I get that Samsung is the biggest player, as a single brand, but that doesn't automatically mean they do everything the best.

As for your "S23 Ultra have the best zoom camera since the s20u" statement. If you scroll down to the "zoom scores explained" in the link below. You can see comparisons of this Mi 11 Ultra vs S21 Ultra. The Xiaomi is clearly a lot better. And dxomark was far from the only one to mention this.

Anonymous, 13 Apr 2023If you believe in their conspiracy reviews its your choice,... moreYes, yes, yes. Many people "knows" that dxomark sold out because their favorite device isn't no.1 on their list, so obviously there can only be one explanation why. . . It couldn't possibly be that the person stating such baseless nonsense is a brand loyal fanboy. Could it?

I have no reason to believe such false claims about dxo selling out as they are very easy to disprove. Even by using gsmarena's compare tool. Granted this compare tool only provides samples from the main camera, and not the whole system - which is what dxo test, but still it pretty much always backs it up. Has gsmarena also sold out to the exact same parties? And who have they sold out to btw? Because the top 1 keeps changing between brands.

Pretty much all in the top 20 list are good camera phones btw, so please stop crying out about corruption without a shred of evidence. You just appear as a cry baby.

Just because NCAP knows they are testing a Rolls-Royce or a Dacia, doesn't mean that the metrics change. The reviews to shy away from are those never providing comparisons and/or metrics, but only write about "the feelings" of the reviewer.

There are still metrics and comparisons in many reviews.

Dxo still bring competing devices when testing a new one and takes photos under the same conditions to compare.

Besides, you're whole statements fall flat on it's behind as by your logic, the higher end and well established brands such as Samsung and Apple should be dominating, but they are not, because they are simply not the best in this category. Which is also by brand loyal kids in the comment sections goes nuts and claim cheating.

Gsmareana's compare tool does a very good job at backing up the results from dxomark btw.

"And due to the main camera's 1" sensor, you'd need to take group shots from afar because otherwise not everyone will be in focus."

I think that Dxomark are completely overstating this issue. The 1"-type sensor has roughly a crop factor of x3, so a focal length at around f 1.8 would translate to a 5.4 f-stop equivalent DoF on a FF sensor.
And seriously now: Since when is an f5.4 considered to providing a "narrow DoF"?

Well, there is a reason, why clinical trials are conducted in a "double-blind" manner: patient and physician both don't know whether the subject is receiving placebo or the real medication.
Why is that so? Because by knowing, our brain subconsciously builds up expectations: When you expect or even hope that a medication will help, then it will already do so ("placebo" effect).
Same thing with Smartphones: by knowing which brand you are testing, you already have expections. For example, Apple's recent iPhones excel at video recording, so as a reviewer, I would expect the next iPhone to be particularly well at that task.

That's why such analyses need to be blinded. One part of the team (the "unblinded" staff) takes all the shots with the camera, and another part of the team (the "blinded" staff) performs the analyses without knowing whehter they are looking at photos made with a crappy 120 USD device or the latest and greatest flagship.

yleop, 13 Apr 2023i wonder why last year the find x5 pro review (underwhelmin... moreThat's because the X6 Pro is a much better phone with significantly better cameras than the X5 Pro.

So stop putting your opinion on others.

Why would company A present their phone for testing if they suspected that company B or C, or both, were paying extra for better scores? They wouldn't.

I would take camera reviews from smaller sites with a grain of salt. I've seen "shootouts" during in example sunset where the winner photos were clearly taken significantly earlier in the sunset than the losers. Clouds and sun location gave it very clearly away.

If ever you see complaints in comment sections, about dxomark, it is salty fanboys who don't like the outcome if the competitor(s) of their favorite brand does better. Be it overall or in a specific category. Essentially they are just proving that marketing works and brand loyalty makes people irrational.

Brand loyalty will lead to the loyal person's loss and the faceless company's win.
                          Hence marketing ftw.

The problem with dxomark is that they get paid by the cameraphone makers to perform the reviews. While there is per se nothing wrong with that business model, it is associated with an inherent and quite significant conflict of interest.
DxOMark could and should introduce some measures in order to ameliorate this conflict: For example, a part of their team that is actually analyzing the pictures taken with the tested device, could be blinded to the name of the device. So, they would do the analyses but without knowing by which device these samples had been taken.

Their processing software might be good, although sometimes the images appear over-saturated or over-sharpened....and that fake moon stuff? I mean that's pretty embarrassing. They can put as many megapixels as they want on that sensor, but a 1-inch sensor like on the 12S Ultra, vivo X90 Pro or Xiaomi 13 Pro is fairly superior. Now, you want to argue with an actual photographer over this? It's a loosing game for you. Samsung is pretty much the best Android phone brand on the market. Pretty much the best software, great overall specs and a capable camera indeed. But it is not the best camera phone. It's not even that camera centric like other phones
