Wilbro, 18 Jul 2023I also hope for the S24 phones to support Dolby Vision. and i dunno but maybe this can give an idea.. or maybe not ?
HDR10+ was out in 13 December 2017... Three years after Dolby vision was founded.. so maybe it was improved in some points ?
= )

Source: wikipedia; Dolby Vision was introduced in 2014, making it the first available HDR format. HDR10+ is a competitor HDR format that also uses dynamic metadata.

Wilbro, 18 Jul 2023I also hope for the S24 phones to support Dolby Vision. Dolby Vision on S24 phone camera ?
If you allow "an unexperienced guess".. that might be an unnecessary request..
S23 is already HDR10+.. and if I'm not mistaken.. HDR10+ is "equivalent to" or "even better" than to DoVi.. but im not %100 percent sure.. must be confirmed by a cam geek..

PS: and also i just remembered that s23 cam images was better than most phone cams which were DoVi.. (Dolby Vision).. so.. ? that kind of prooves my theory..

and an extra explanation of HDR versions.. and DoVi..
do not expect great expectations from Dolby Vision just because it is DoVi.. they are just licence subjects.. you can compare DoVi to HDR.. ok.. DoVi always outbests HDR... but when you have HDR10+ in hand.. HDR10+ is equal to DoVi or maybe it even outbests DoVi..

PS 2: I would be glad if someone corrects me with details if i am wrong about these thoughts.. cheers.. ; )

ishreal, 17 Apr 2023Sounds like a long day but why do you use your phone at max... moreIn my experience it doesn't work for me. I prefer a brighter screen because colours are more accurate and more vibrant that way. The only scenario I turn it down is in the dark at night, but that doesn't happen very often.

PhoneFreak45, 17 Apr 2023Using a maps application like OsmAnd, I get roughly 6 hours... moreSounds like a long day but why do you use your phone at max brightness no matter what? My eyes can barely stand my screen past 30%, I could not imagine full brightness all day every day. You know that's really bad for your phone and eyes right? You're wearing down the screen, LEDs and/or backlight, and putting A LOT of unreasonable strain on your eyes. Your phone battery is suffering significantly also because of that behavior. Set your phone no more than 50% (unless you are in direct sunlight) and your battery life problems will disappear. Also autobrightness on phones is nearly perfect.

ishreal, 17 Apr 2023You didn't mention flagships and also most flagships g... moreUsing a maps application like OsmAnd, I get roughly 6 hours of screen on time at max brightness. Considering in the summer I often ride my bike all day, and tend to want to take a defined route, yeah actually it's not enough. I wake up, eat breakfast, ride until lunch, go back out after that, until dinnertime, and again until about 9:30. That's a total of 10 hours most days, assuming I'm home for an hour for lunch and dinner. I would only have to be navigating for 60% of that time to drain the battery completely. Yet, considering I also use my phone to take pictures of things I find interesting, and videos of things I may be doing like an interesting trick, I'll often rack up half an hour in the camera app everyday. In the summer the main time I use my phone for fun things is during lunch, where I'll watch tech videos and read GSMarena articles, adding another hour to that. Considering I tend to use my phone at max brightness in every situation, 6 hours of screen on time is a healthy estimate. So, in a day, if I spent half an hour reading articles in the morning, then 4 and a half hours navigating through out the day, 1 hour consuming tech content at lunch, and half an hour of camera throughout the day, my battery would last the day. However if I'm riding my bike, there's music on, which adds a battery drain of around 6.0%/ hour. So 5.5 * 6 is 33. My battery is usually dead by 4PM, and it has absolutely nothing to do with social media. Phones are useful for more than just scrolling social media.

I don't even know what functions the extra cameras on the rear side play in real life.
All just marketing gimmick to me.

Maybe don't spend so much time endless scrolling on social media and you wouldn't need such ridiculous battery life demands.

Anonymous, 15 Apr 2023Give 16GB ram too and not 12GB again. It is about time.Totally doubt 16GB makes any difference in Android world. The chipset is what matters more. You can put 16GB RAM on a budget phone, but it still won't be snappy to use because of the slow chipset.

Just because you don't use wired headphone doesn't mean everyone is the same as you. I have Sony's basic MDR-ZX110 headphone that I bought for $10 and it completely decimates my $25 Xiaomi TWS Basic Earbuds.

Also, wireless is still not the future since you still have to deal with latency all the time. If wireless is the future as you claimed, why we aren't still seeing wireless 4K/120Hz display and wireless DAC? You never see LG take out the headphone jack on their flagship phones because they obviously know that DAC audio don't work wirelessly.

AnonD-1037771, 16 Apr 2023Exactly ! I'm not an Apple fan, but in the last years ... moreYou sony fans are the funniest niche group here. I wonder with all demands why Sony still failed lol. Surely I'm not bashing my one of childhood absolute fav brand also side Nokia, Motorola. But you people the reason why I started thinking of Apple fanbase more worthy recently.

Yeah Samsung did remove many cool features but this is the common scenario today and no one seems care.

Like I hate wireless headphones but wired headphones are irrelevant for this fast pace world. Sd card is simply pointless. I never used the slow unreliable sd card after sometime. And people won't notice that pixel difference normally in any circumstances on a tiny display at even the closest viewing distance. Manufacturers obviously want more lighter and similarly strong materials. So Aluminium is the choice. According to you airplane should also use stainless steel fuselage lol. But none of these are as stupid as not providing chargers in the box but they'll obviously take all chances for business.

No wonder sony wants to follow these trends as well. Then I'll see what excuse you people make.

Samsung removed from the high-end segment all the features that made them stand out not only in the face of Apple , but also compared to other android brands: Let's see:
                                    - no 3.5mm jack
                                    - no SD card slot
                                    - downgraded display on Plus and regular version (both resolution and PPI density)
                                    - downgraded RAM amount
                                    - no more stainless steel frame on the Note
                                    - no charger in the box
                                    - no wired headphones in the box
First they had the audacity to made those commercials mocking Apple for not having those features , and next year they removed them themselves. Just pathetic if you ask me .
Except for the open-source part of android (that 99% of the users will never actually use), there's not much of a difference anymore.
My only choice to stay on the android side is to go with Sony (I've been a big fan), but lately they just seem not to give a fly about updates or being more available outside Japan . And the prices ...
Like I said , if things don't improve with Samsung , I'm switching to Apple. Samsung clearly likes to emulate Apple, might as well go for the original, right?
Also , I don't care about the cameras , that's not why I buy my phones. I have DSLR cameras for that .
