Weekly poll results: vivo foldables spark interest, but the X Fold2 might need a price cut

07 May 2023
While it costs less than the X Fold+ did at launch, there is strong competition on the market at similar prices. vivo seems to have nailed the pricing of the X Flip.

    *samsung Z series exists*

Vivo polling voter: vivo foldable? Well..there are better alternatives than this phone.

Chinese phone user: this vivo foldable should be 200 USD, because thats the maximum amount of money we can spend.

Oki, 07 May 2023Why do people voluntarily spend excessive amount of money f... moreSimply because they are not fragile and the most practical phones you can find (I can speak for Z Fold series only).

Oki, 07 May 2023Why do people voluntarily spend excessive amount of money f... moreEven though I really want a foldable phone for myself, I agree. The biggest problems apart from their lackluster durability and display crease is the lack of an IP68 rating, no 1440p outer and inner screens as would be standard on a flagship, a usually bad battery capacity (though the Vivo X Fold2's battery capacity is very good), super tall aspect ratios (give me 19.5:9 not 21:9) and subpar cameras. Until foldables are non-compromising flagship devices at their price point, most people would never consider them, not even an enthusiast like me.

Why do people voluntarily spend excessive amount of money for fragile impractical devices? 🤦🏻‍♂️😐

We are going backwards in technology for years now

Now if only the Vivo X Fold2's telephoto lens was much larger and 50 MP and did 5x zoom. Also, would love for a larger 50 MP ultrawide. That's the biggest problem with it. If it's that expensive, I sure as hell want sensors as good as flagships (realistically, even flagships often use shit sensors like that 200 MP one from the S23 Ultra). Also, just give us a 19.5:9 1440p outer screen and a 4:3.6 1440p inner screen. The sizes of the screens are perfect though.

It’s important to note that most gsmarena users are probably huge tech enthusiasts and around 1/4 don’t want a foldable. I think that really says a lot about the current state of this tech (both the hardware and the software).

They need to put all effort into the camera aspect...i mean.. They have all the space they want for sensors... I guess the only issue they have is the camera running software. I love the design tho...

Foldables aren't worth it. Their designs aren't perfect yet. Most have small batteries according to their displays, have a crease and gap in between the halves, display too fragile etc etc
