Sony Xperia 1 V unveiled with Exmor T stacked sensor, 4K OLED display

The new sensor should be twice as good as its predecessor in low light.

Beautiful. I'll wait for the reviews. This looks so promising.
However, the software update side of things though.

But still I love Sony for keeping all the necessary amenities.

Sony is really a gem. Only the best materials and techniques make their phones.

Hope their software division catches up.

Respect to Sony for still keeping the SD card slot unlike the greedy companies out there. Samsung should learn from Sony not to follow Apple.

The Camera hardware is really there, its just the Camera Software particularly for Auto ones that need to catch-up.

I know this is device is for niche / very specific target audience who know how to navigate Manual camera mode. But it would be good if they also up their game with Auto-Software processing for quick shots - maybe they able to snatch some new customers with that.

Overall, not very flashy flagship device like S23U but quite compact and focuses on what it seems they good at. Lets see how this holds up with camera comparsion with others.

the white color is so gorgeous. hands down the best looking flagship to date this year.

excited to see it's new AI algorithm in action.

gotta love the honesty too with the battery.

the only problem is the support.

and it's way beyond my price range.
let's see what 5V has to offer

This looks good. Finally something to compete with S23U. Of course iphones are no go zone

Rkm, 11 May 2023Sony's primary sensor was already superfast. Now curio... moreProbably it has dram to keep same speed (or close) of imx557 (no dram) . Because as size increases, the readout speed reduces. So special ADC or dram is required.
Iphone 14 pro imx803 has DRAM like imx400 (xz premium).

It now does 30fps. Something that could have been done last year. Or even before.
Imx563 (16mm) is main camera of xperia 5.

Sony's primary sensor was already superfast. Now curious to see what direction they will take with a stacked sensor.

you have to suffer, 11 May 2023this would compete against s23 ultra, just sayin'The Xperia 1 has always been the direct competitor against the Galaxy S Ultra and iPhone Pro Max. I'm hoping that GSMArena will include the S23 Ultra in the camera shootout of the 1 Mk5 review.

what about the ultrawide and periscope sensors?
does it have the new two layer sensors?

"Sony is keen not to repeat the overheating fiasco that was the Xperia 1 IV and so the Xperia 1 V comes with a 60% larger heat diffusion sheet volume."
Let's not forget that the 8 Gen 1 SoC in the 1 Mk4 is fabricated by Samsung, and even Soiny struggle to tame the thermal. That's the reason I skipped the 2021 and 2022 Sony flagships, including the Pro-I, because of the thermal-inefficient chipset. Qualcomm finally got everything right again with the 8 Gen 2.

Nevertheless, I can't wait to see the camera performance. 52MP Quad Bayer sensor? Should be interesting.

Finally, a high-resolution sensor on Xperia! It's been long overdue but I guess it's better late than never.

While the sensor size seems to be identical to OnePlus 9 Pro's IMX789 (Which also happens to be a 52MP sensor with the same 16:11 aspect ratio), this one is built on the latest 2-layer transistor pixel technology which effectively doubles the light gathering, so it's interesting to see how well this will fare against the type 1 sensor used on the most recent flagship smartphones from BBK, Xiaomi and Sharp.

Now hopefully Sony allows you to shoot 48MP photos, or at least crop from the full-resolution image when shooting in 2x zoom..

Just do it. Midranges used to get 1 new android. Support was increased to 2 silently.
