magnaroader, 16 May 2023I mean, I get wanting to use a Motorola, but the stylus var... moreI wanted a midranger around $250-$300 in the USA. Coming from the Moto E (2020), which had inadequate performance and a paltry 32GB internal storage, I wanted adequate performance, an unlocked phone, good battery life, a lot of storage, and a reliable experience. I also would prefer my phone to have a headphone jack, a MicroSD slot, and WiFi 6 (for a more reliable internet experience).
I initially considered the Xperia 10 IV and a used flagship, but the Sony was too pricey and the used flagship would be a risky choice. Samsung A52s isn't commonly found here and the A53 is overpriced compared to Moto phones. I narrowed down to 3 devices:
Google Pixel 6a (128GB) - $300
Moto G Stylus 5G (2022) (256GB) + 256GB MicroSD card - $300
Moto Edge (2021) (256GB) - $292
The G Stylus 5G won out over the Edge due to the headphone jack and MicroSD slot, and better battery life. I cared about these features more than a slightly better camera setup and slightly better performance and a slightly better screen. Plus the G Stylus came with a MicroSD card worth about $25. In retrospect I maybe should've went with the Edge as I do use BT headphones a lot more now than in 2021, and storage hasn't been an issue. I guess I'm simply voting with my wallet to retain those features.
But the Google Pixel 6a was a mess. It lost the headphone jack and MicroSD slot, along with a bunch of other reasons that summed up to a nope for me:
1. Bad modem. It's a phone, I need it to work as a phone.
2. Bad fingerprint sensor.
3. Buggy software (look at this article lol).
4. 128GB internal instead of 256GB. I fear running out of storage.
5. 6GB RAM instead of 8GB. Not a dealbreaker, but small things add up.
6. Subpar battery life. 94h endurance rating is below most flagships. Meanwhile, the G Stylus 5G (2022) has ~130h endurance (based on the similar Moto G82 with the same chipset and battery capacity). I care a lot about battery life because I know the battery will degrade over time and I want it to be usable years from now.
Not once did the Stylus factor into the decision, it just happened to exist on the phone with the best price/specs ratio for me. And I guess I'm supporting slightly quirky phones with this purchase too.

kek, 15 May 2023I always disable that crap. it is a huge waste of resources Somehow it's vice versa for me. I have a Samsung phone and I uninstall most of the Samsung apps like Gallery and keep or replace with the Google apps (except the vital one like Dialer app).

SuperSpruce, 16 May 2023This is one of the many reasons why I chose a Moto G Stylus... moreI mean, I get wanting to use a Motorola, but the stylus variants are normally low budget devices aren't they? Any particular reason you opted for the Stylus variant over the regular G series?

This is one of the many reasons why I chose a Moto G Stylus 5G 2022 over a Pixel 6a.
This also reaffirms my decision to disable the Google app on my phone.

This is due to GmsCore.apk ... collecting data 24/7 when data/WiFi are switched ON. It's not a surprise from Google (the name of the brand says everything 😇 about their true activity)
