i had an iphone for 2 years, after those battery status showed 85% residual capacity. i called support because of problema connecting to cell network and they discovered a battery issue. iphone replaced and now battery residual capacity no longer dropping 1% a month. the end of the story is that apple collects tons of data, they know defective devices around but they will not tell the user until forced to.

ny the way, i am ok with apple and will buy it again and again. just bunch of luxury thieves like many

If there will be like 1% increase in a same 5000 mAh cell its a garbage honeslty.
    Not enough to interest people.
Would like to see something like Irridium cells which are capable of self regeneration and self refill. Or an Antimatter batteries filled with antimatter for almost endless power for phone, tablet, laptop, EV Car or any other battery powered device.

I read articles like this almost everyday... some one is doing wonders with Battery technology.. But, nothing ever comes of it
No one ever goes as far as mentioning what "will" happen to the new wonderful batteries at end of life. What's the carbon footprint of these batteries?

I'll take a bet no one will tell you, backed by independent data to verify their answers...and if you get an answer its full of the usual climate change idiots favourite words of "could, might, likely. Etc etc. What garbage!

Awwww yeahhh, I knew this day would come soon for the smartphone industry. It was inevitable.

But then i heard of modern phones like a iPhone X having these issues. Im sure a Note8 can still run like normal on a old battery, just that the charge percentage won't be holding for long.

Meanwhile, other manufacturers just let the device shut off into a deep discharge state. These topics have been dealt with 1000 times on here. Possible that they would be more quiet about it. But please don’t frame these things like that.

While if it was happening with Apple they would be quiet about it just like with many issues they had. The peformance slow down for example.

The difference is that the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 had a design flaw that made it happen much more often. Basically from what I understand, the battery was packed so tight that it didn’t allow for the shape change a battery experiences with changing temperatures (like plastic or wood expand and condense with different temperatures). That made layers connect that should not connect and then made it catch fire, to explain it very simplified.

Thing is, lithium battery technology has its limitations. One of them is safety. Lithium batteries can catch fire, even if designed and handled properly. And that affects every manufacturer that uses lithium batteries (which is every phone manufacturer). So an iPhone or a Samsung or a Xiaomi or an Oppo or a Lava, they can all catch fire. Only difference is if there is a design flaw (like with Note 7) it is much more prone to catch fire.

But i have heard several iPhones have batteries explode yet Apple stays quiet about it because it would harm their brand.

Quantumscape has not published any data on energy density of their current "A0" cells. They are running years behind their published schedule and the numbers that they hoped to achieve once their technology is ready for production are already matched by CATL's conventional Qilin battery.

The real game changer for BEVs won't be solid state but sodium ion, which will help make BEVs cheaper to build than ICE cars.
