Apple schedules "special event" for June 5, likely for AR/VR headset

17 May 2023
Apple is being secretive as usual, so it hasn't confirmed anything. The event will span the entire first day of WWDC, so it must be something important.

Anonymous, 20 May 2023You have to suffer their prices or just buy something else, lol.haha i'd rather buy an oculus rather than this sleek looking $3000 apple vr headset that all can it do is to watch tiktok in vr😂😂😂😂

They're half a decade late to this party. Apple clearly doesn't have a plan here. They should leave all the VR/AR stuff to people who have actual serious worthwhile ideas (and great ideas don't seem to be Apple's strong suit these days).

                Doa because of the price.

Meta will release almost as good Quest 3 VR headset for 300-500 dollars later this year which will have great games and apps.

                  Apple is the best!

I’m genuinely curious as to how Apple will do this headset. It could end up being either just good or really bad.
But the pricing will always be bad with Apple atp, especially for the EU and other regions.
Apple takes huge pride in optimization so let’s see how this goes…

So based on this image everyone seems to be expecting some sort of AR/VR device. Based on the rumors I'd say that's possible, but there's another plausible explanation: The image is just meant to represent Apple's Cupertino headquarters where WWDC is hosted. (If you've never seen it, look up some pictures.) I know there was a previous released invitation image that looked more like lenses for a VR device, but there were rumors going around that the device was no where close to ready. Perhaps Apple will take a middle path and announce the new MacOS version with support for AR/VR applications, while waiting until their own hardware is ready for prime time. Apple certainly doesn't want a repeat of the AirPower debacle. If this is referring to a hardware device other than an AR/VR headset, I'd guess a new "trashcan" Mac of some kind (Mac Pro is their last Intel device being sold) or a new HomePod.

There's also nothing mysterious about the "Special Event at Apple Park". That's just what they're calling their WWDC keynote day. In the past it was "Special Event at WWDC" or at the convention center in San Jose or San Francisco they were hosting the event at.

Really eager to see what they have in store for us, should be exciting.
