AnonD-14560, 17 Apr 2013Well, I agreed with Apple iOS but it seems MS didn't want t... moreAgreed. But i don't see the point why people need to have a customized ROM just to get that JB (and other future OS) experience? Custom ROMS have a lot of bugs and most of them are still incomplete. I think its much "safer" if they will release an official ROM update... yes?
Going to WP, that's why IE s*cks bigtime since people will just download Chrome, Opera or Firefox instead of updating that "slow" browser.. lol

WP 6.1 couldn't update to 6.5, 6.5 couldn't update to 7, and lastly 7.8 couldn't update to 8. Let's see what they did with IE on its Windows platform while you can install latest Firefox, Chrome, and Opera on that.
Of cause, things doesn't look much better for Android as it's now but you can always buy a cheap Nexus phone anytime and you will get updates directly from Google, fast and for many years. If you can't live without those fancy staffs Samsung and other manufacturers are offering, choose their flagship phone and you will likely to find custom roms in XDA site, CM for example, in case those manufacturers left you out with no further update.

Unlike WP or iphone (3gs and up) wherein they can get updates OTA easily once available.. i'm an android user and still waiting for that JB update due to the Project Butter wherein it will be smooth and fixed crashes.. but up to now im still waiting for ages...

This is the major problem with Android. Since every smartphone vendor has his own customized version of the same android, you have to rely on your vendor to provide you the update. In a windows phone however, the update is sure to get to you if your phone can benefit from it. Whether you have HTC or Nokia or something else, it is microsoft who decides if the phone is good for the update. The only series of mobiles in android with such streamlines update is the nexus series whose software is provided directly by google.
I may be wrong about what I wrote above, and request a correction if someone knows for sure about this stuff.
But from what I gathered so far over the internet, all the windows 7 phones get their update (be it 7.5 and 7.8) at the same time. They did not get windows 8 because they did not have the hardware to utilize it. Even for windows 8, if there is an update, all the windows 8 phones are going to get it at the same time.
In case a correction is needed, please do correct me.

This could well be a case of delaying the update by expecting Sony owners to buy the latest Z, well Sony, it doesn't work like that. If you let people down this way they are more likely to swap brand and throw away any loyalty they had towards your products.
This sort of fiasco seems to go on within the mobile industry, Samsung Wave 1/2 owners were treated the same way.
