That nets you a 12/512GB model in either Black or Green.

[deleted post]I paid 945 euros for this phone, including postage and tax, as I said in my below comment. I also said in my below comment that I am not remotely justifying the price of this phone. If you bothered to read any of my comments you'd see that I have been saying all along that Xiaomi has no right to charge so much for this phone.

poophone, 28 May 2023No need to be condescending, this isn't a pi**ing cont... moreAlright fair enough, we're fighting the same battle. I'm a Senior DevOps Engineer myself so likely our salaries are very similar. Apologies for the attitude.

In any case, I agree with you. The phone has no right to be 1500 euros. Which is why I bought it for 945 euros from China, which included VAT. I think this price is fair and as my username says, I don't pay over 1000 euros for any phone. If the phone would cost this much, I get it from somewhere else. It's just my own policy.

The 13 Pro is currently still 1299 here in Europe, and many months after its release. I think that price is also outrageous. The Xiaomi 10T Pro I bought a few years ago was 500 euros. It has 5G, 8K/30 & 4K30/60, 256GB of storage, 144hz screen, HDR10, front and back Gorilla Glass 5, 5000mAh battery with PD 3.0. The only "non-flagship" downsides was the lack of wireless charging, eSIM, usb 3.0 speed and 4K selfie video. All of which I could absolutely live without. The camera was (and still is) incredible and is extremely well optimised. This phone being listed with OVH of 1499 is just crazy. All of it's specs are better, but 3 times better? No way.

The 500 extra cost is the real cost of our high taxes. We pay 24% here. Yet the "real" VAT cost to all EU members is closer to 30% regardless of what any individual country pays. You can look it up online and see what most consumers end up paying after everything is taken into account.

Given that the only difference would have been 1 year extra warranty here (Chinese model I got has 2 years), and the addition of 700Mhz and 800Mhz bands. It wasn't enough to justify the 500 extra euros.

          RIP Xiaomi ... That's 1608$ USD

Anonymous, 26 May 2023Pro-i 2 is not coming any soon. That doesn't change the fact the the Xperia 1 V really isn't a competitor to this 13 Ultra, but rather sits between the standard 13 and the Pro :-)

NeverPayOver1000eur, 26 May 2023Brands need to know their place. You can't walk into t... moreMost people buying phones costing more than about 4-500 EUR are paying more for better camera performance - essentially. Yes, a small portion of gamers could pay for the latest snapdragon 8-series, but that is a tiny portion of smartphone buyers. The rest already gets the high frame rate amoleds, plenty of power for normal use cases etc. already in this price range.

Consumers showing brand loyalty and buying into marketing, means that worse products can sell well and good products sell less.

"So tell me again Norwegian why I should just be looking at the specifications and not the brand?"

Where did I say only look at the specifications? You have to look at the product, as a whole, not the marketing fluff and brand.

Samsung as been the no. 1 phone manufacturer for years, yet their SW has never really been very desirable, and the main reason why I don't have the S23 Ultra. Also, their cameras, below flagship, always gets weak performance compared to other mid-ranger and budget devices with similar camera HW. I can only assume this is deliberate by Samsung, wanting their customers to opt for S-series, by underperforming the A-series etc. compared to the potential of the camera HW.

OnePlus and nothing are also weak in the camera dept., compared to others in similar price range, but have had very successful marketing strategies. This is why the relatively tiny OnePlus is doing well in the west, compared to it's siblings Oppo and Vivo. People put too much weight on marketing and brand recognition and therefore often times get the wrong device compared to what their respective budget could have gotten them.

If you compare the Xiaomi 13 Ultra to other phones in this price bracket, it does not perform worse. In fact the only real competitor (outside of China) seems difficult to get, the Oppo Find X6 Pro.

It will be interesting to see if the Pixel 8 Pro keeps it's price point of the 7 Pro and or camera HW, or ups to the same IMX989 as Xiaomi and Oppo. Currently the Pixel 7 Pro is the one to beat when it comes to camera performance per EUR. I still want the 13 Ultra though, but it has to land here first.

As for importing directly from China to save money, I can certainly see the appeal, but electronics is electronics and there will always be a percentage of (near) DoA, so I would not import. I also think the gain, will be "compensated" for if you tend to sell your used device. As a China import, I think most people would pay less than if purchased in your region.

Also, that it will be available likely the first week of June.

For everyone out there complaining about the price then u should read this reasons and am comparing it primarily with Samsung's latest ,
1.miui now doesn't have adds and takes up less than Samsung's oneui (15gb vs over 50gb)
                  2. MIUI gets unnecessary hate from American reviewers who doesn't want to see Chinese brands surpass apple and Samsung, miui is the best android ui right now taking up less space, wayyyy smoother than oneui on flagship level, and uses less memory I read a comment by one Sammy duffos saying Samsung sells quality not quantity by giving 8gb and 12gb vs 12 and 16gb well that's just B.S. I watched a review on Twitter comparing s23ultra and xiaomi 13ultra ram management and xiaomi won fair and square
                  3. Fast charging cost a lot and by a lot I mean a lot more than using USB 3.2 with very slow charging add the fact that xiaomi comes with charger in the box that's a clear win besides xiaomi 13 ultra combines video out fast USB plus fast charging
                  4. Heavy Cost cutting by Samsung I had a privilege to talk to a Samsung image engineer on Twitter and he told me Samsung skipped imx989 cuz it's too expensive yes u heard it right too expensive so couple that with other powerful cameras Xiaomi is using it's no challenge who spent weyyyy more adding 4k selfie is pretty cheap Xiaomi just doesn't want to do it yet maybe we may see it in 14 series.
If one wants to buy a tech it isn't a fashion show don't keep falling for marketing strategies look at pros and cons why would anyone determine that certain companies price their products less cuz their not his or her favorite brand or maybe they just have problems with Chinese brands Samsung gives a year more of android os update and that's it besides a lot of people purchasing flagships will always switch between 2 to 3 years so as not to miss the latest tech cuz no broke person would spend over a thousand dollars on a phone
Speaking of cost cutting let me shock xiaomi haters Samsung s24 ultra still coming with the same 200mp hp2 sensor but Xiaomi 14 ultra would be coming with an m4/3 sensor if you Don't know the size it's about 33 percent larger than 1inch,50 percent larger than 1/1.12 inch(would be used in iphone 15promax) and a whooping 83percent larger than HP2

You're right, the 30 devices released every year, are all only quality and I got to admit, software does not need to be optimised, only hardware. That would be enough to force 300 apps into a device, plus bixby and google assIstent, and the device to still be able to work half a second faster then a mid-range vanila android, totally worth the price, they really sell "good quality" devices...

I work as a System Architect so my salary is well above average even by US standards and can easily afford it. Not sure how you came to the conclusion that you probably make 10x than me but that's beside the point.

The thing that I wanted to point out is that people are spending way too much money on so-called premium phones when the benefit they bring is only marginal and does not justify the price. For instance, what would be a major benefit of Xiaomi's phone over let's say a ~1000E iPhone 14 Pro so that the 500E price difference is worth it?
What a bigger screen and a slightly better camera! Can I afford to buy one? Yes.
Would I pay 50% more for it? No. But that's just me.

So it's not about affordability, it's about whether is it really worth paying 50-60% more only for marginal improvements. But that's only my opinion.

Pointless to even try to argue with Xiaomi fanboys. Stay delusional.

This is what I was scared of and it happened finally. Even Xiaomi jacked up prices. It used to be that Apple made the most expensive phone, then samsung and their dumb strategists made the decision to make an ultra phone even more expensive and nerf the base S series phones and now Xiaomi has jacked up prices to higher than Samsung even. This is what happens when there is less competition, Huawei going away meant samsung could hike up prices and Xiaomi and other chinese manufacterers weren't good enough back then, didn't have proper availability and Oneplus was starting to go downhill. Oneplus is mid now, Vivo and Oppo don't have the "Ultra" phones available globally and Huawei is nowhere to be seen globally either. Xiaomi took advantage of this and now they have higher prices than Samsung, people who are defending this are part of the problem, we as consumers HAVE to complain somehow otherwise these bad companies will only increase the prices, look at NVIDIA and the gpu market! Google is basically our only hope now but their availability is horrendous, we need to do something about that. This phone does NOT deserve to be more expensive than Samsung's Ultra or Apple's Pro Max, at best it should be the same price, cheaper if possible. Why? Brand recognition, that is part of the value in those phones. And those phones have better and longer updates too. Overall, Xiaomi's lost my respect. The 13 Pro was overpriced and this is as well. Hope Oppo, Google, Oneplus and Vivo are able to do something about this. We as consumers are losing

Also every company's number one priority is their shareholders. Of course they habe to consumers reasonably happy too as they need them buy products to make more money for the shareholders. As businesses become more established they nearly always increase profit margins as they don't have to fight as hard for market share anymore. All the Chnese brands saw a massive opportunity with the US hardware restrictions om Huawei. Huawei had nearly the entire flagship Android market in China before they were blocked from accessing many hardware components. Afterwards, Oppo, Vivo and Xiaomi all put big effort into the flagship segment and marketing to try to gain Huawei's lost market. Why? Because it is a very profitable segment of the market

Costs which must be recovered from phone's price/ sales are: Managers' and workers' salaries, carriage costs, transportation costs, lawyer fees, directors salaries, plant electricity costs, maintenance costs, office costs, machinery depreciation, advertising, customer disputes and warranty payments, etc. Once the phones leave the factory, now they also have to pay wholesalers, retailers, etc a fair share of margin.

I once read how a premium iPhone's Bill of Materials came to be $192. So, we can assume a figure of around $140-170 for Mi6, and the rest is mentioned above.
As for your statement about 5% profit, it may be close, because now Mi is also advertising very heavily including cinema ads, tv ads, which is expensive and a very bad move for a fan focused brand.
These fan made companies like Oneplus, Mi, IQOO, Realme, etc. are now into mass market, they hardly care for fans anymore.
Once bloat free kings, now they're the biggest bloat carriers in the market.

What I terribly fail to understand is, why don't Mi flagships record videos properly?
4K60 is a hyper-rare mode in Xiaomis, found in many Snapdragon 855 phones, and Mi couldn't figure it till now.

And the suspicious part is:- Aftermarket Camera apps used to record 4K in (2016) Redmi Note 4 but not anymore... I think Mi will not kill its own products by this insane decision.
Makes you wonder, is anyone controlling the entire smartphone industry?
