Anonymous, 28 May 2023What specifically do you dislike about their software? Sigh, I don't even know where to start, just from recent couple of days... WiFi randomly disconnecting or not connecting until I specifically GO to settings and select the wifi I connect literally every day, random browser freezings, notifications stuck overlay, phone randomly turning into safe mode after restart, phone just randomly deciding how much it wants to charge (mid-charge it switches from full charge to battery saving mode and chargers only 80%). All these thing are not the end of the world and do not happen THAT often, but they happen often enough to make you hate the phone's guts. I literally never had any such issue with my previous Samsung. I understand that Samsung has like 100 times the software development budget than Sony so I don't blame them too much, but damn am I not buying Sony phone again.

In a few months, it appears for 900 dollars in stores of people who buy it in lots, it appears for 1000 and if you don't despair, up to 800 but in several more months

Honestly, if I didn't value Google's post processing and the Google Pixel 7 Pro's LTPO panel, I would get this phone. I do also think that the black bars above the Sony Xperia 1 V's screen should give it enough space and not ruin the aesthetic to add an ultrawide selfie camera and a 3D ToF LiDAR sensor for facial recognition alongside its wide selfie camera. Wasted opportunity, though the phone itself is still amazing. The inclusion of a headphone jack is also a cherry on the cake.

The biggest problem with the 10V, is that is only a small refresh. I'm pretty sure the motherboard inside is the same as last year's model.
With a lower price point, it could sell itself better.

1 V FTW
The level of refinement they achieved this year is really impressive.
The 10 V is OK, but Google is so good with its A series phones is really good

I have a xiaomi for $150 and it does the same thing. It even has a decent camera. ::)
Nice Sony's, but expensive. ::)

As a current Xperia 5 II owner - absolutely not, never a Sony phone again. At least not until they increase budget for the software development. It's a curse of all Sony phones, the hardware is always a *chef's kiss* but the software is an absolute MESS.

Every Sony I've had since Xperia Z has been easy to overheat. Even my current Xperia 10 III overheats pretty quickly when doing WiFi sharing and streaming stuff or downloading big files, otherwise it's fine

Not getting a upgrade until they bring back 4K recording, or some other manufacturer brings out a reasonably priced compact phone with good battery life, Xperia 10 III is good enough, the only complaint is that they never truly fixed the green tint oled issue

I'd skip the 10 V and go for the A54 or Pixel 7a. Sure, they both don't have headphone jacks but you can cough up the extra 5-10 bucks for a USB-C to headphone jack adapter/dongle.
695 vs Tensor G2 is a no brainer. G2 will punk 695. So will the 1380.

10 Mk5 is an easy pass for me. It's a 10 Mk4 with a front stereo speaker and 48MP primary camera.
1 Mk5 is definitely on my list. Since LG exited the smartphone market, Sony has been on my radar for my next phone. However, I've been holding off on Sony's 2021 and 2022 flagship phones, including the Pro-I, because of the thermal-inefficient 888 and 8 Gen 1. Qualcomm finally got things right again with the 8 Gen 2, and the 1 Mk5 primary camera is a massive improvement over the 1 Mk4. Easily my next phone, without a doubt.
