0odle-noodle, 02 Jun 2023More cores = better multitasking & task switching perfo... morePc has more core than mobile though.
Also phone dont use all cores at once and geekbench 6 is adressing this.
Like this sd 8 gen 3 will have 8 cores in 3 cluster.
-1 core of cortex X4
-5 cores of cortex A720
-2 cores of cortex A520.
Most of time those 5 cores will do day to day work, like Gaming, browsing, running apps etc. Cortex X4 is used to single core heavy task like when you encounter heavy script in website, and those sMall cores will handle easy task, standby etc.
So its not like all 8 cores are used at once, Apple middle cores are efficient thats why they use 6 cores and dont use small cores, even in Android world if next A7xx cores became efficient enough they may scrap 8 cores and use 6 cores.

GregLu, 02 Jun 2023It's mainly the thing that keeps me to buy a Pixel RN.... moreHaving Pixel 6 Pro, literally not feeling any slowdowns due to inferior chipset. Pixels have perfectly optimized software, so you don't feel a lag. The only downside is that this chip can get warm easily and even hot sometimes.

Anonymous, 02 Jun 2023Just make a quad core instead of octa core. It's absol... moreMore cores = better multitasking & task switching performance. On smartphones, task switching happens VERY often, and sometimes applications require more than one core. This is not commonly the case when it comes to PCs. This is why smartphone processors are progressing to having more cores. Although quad core/ hexacore processors do work, its a much better experience when using octa core processors on smartphones.

Anonymous, 02 Jun 2023Resolution is not only requirement to shoot 8K. Many senso... moreDownsampling 61mp to 33mp can improve noise and can retain more details compared to a native 33mp even with bigger pixels (as evident in 808 Pureview where 38mp becomes 8mp), but that's about it. Since pixels are physically smaller, they won't have the dynamic range of larger pixels in 33mp. Dyanmic range depends on how many photons can each pixel register. Larger pixel has more area and more photons can enter.
If you're familiar with planetary cameras, you'll know that very large pixels, at least 3microns are the norm, even if resolution is very low. Why's that? Because planets have surface details that are of low contrast as seen from Earth, so high dynamic range is needed to capture difference between bright and dark areas.
It's important to note that in low light, the importance of dynamic range is highest. So in broad daylight, you'll probably appreciate the higher detail of 61mp more, but in lowlight it's opposite.
Above discussion assumes an RGB sensor. In phones today however, they put quad, nona, even hexadeca Bayer sensors. These are a far cry from 808 Pureview with used RGB pixels of respectable size. These are clearly inferior, as pixel sizes are ridiculously small, just to increase count to claim 8k videos and promote marketing oriented "more is better" mentality. No wonder we haven't seen any noticeable increae in image quality in phones ever since multi-Bayer sensor became the norm. Yes, there's some improvement, mainly due to increased sensor size. But as we're approaching that limit on phones, you'll see no improvement in image quality in years to come, if they keep using inferior multi-Bayer tech. I personally see no improvement between s21 ultra and s23 ultra main sensor performance.

Imagine the hidden depths of technological advancements that chip companies actually possess, but just releasing chips based on market demands while concealing their true potential.

There's a rumor that Qualcomm is talking to Nintendo and Sony about developing a portable gaming handheld. That's interesting. But isn't Nintendo going back with Nvidia for their next Switch?
Emulation is better using Qualcomm unless you do PS Vita since that used Mali. Like Yuzu for Switch emulation is only catered for Qualcomm chips. I can imagine Sony doing this more since they partner with Qualcomm with smartphones.
Nintendo is stubborn as a mule and may not want to enter the mobile industry the way Sony already is in it. And this might break backwards compatibility to the previous Switch if they go Qualcomm. We might finally have a successor to the Xperia Play!

Hot Take: considering how incremental these upgrades are, I kind of wish Qualcomm would slow down to every other year for flagship upgrades. Have one year be flagship and 6 series, another year for 7 and 4 series with the Ultrabooks, head unit for automobiles, and other random tech processors in between. These new phones bring nothing interesting to the table anymore.

Anonymous, 02 Jun 2023I assume the a7iv will have much better dynamic range due t... moreResolution is not only requirement to shoot 8K. Many sensors with more than 44MP cant do 8K.
Except those with built-in DRAM, all sony cameras have basically same DR ( half stop at most difference).
Pixel size thing is myth. Downscaled 61MP to 33 will be better than 33, no matter day or night. You need to go iso way beyond 12800 to start to see very small difference in noise.
Most of times cameras are used between 800-6400.
Low res cam like A7s series only exists because low rolling shutter for videos ( majority of 4K videocameras are 10 or 12MP).
FF with 3.5 micron pixel.pitch will not be defeated by micro 4/3 with larger pixels. The second will not give you cleaner files.
Phones ruin night photos because use high iso to brighten photos when those sensors should not go above iso 400.
