I was planning to get the Razr+ after not wanting it initially because AT&T is offering $5 per month on it after 36 months. No trade-in required. Since I have no intention leaving AT&T for the next 3 years because I'm under ACP ($30 discount), it sounded like a great deal. But I found out I need a minimum $75 monthly plan.
I was planning to get the Value Plus Plan for $50. My ACP would drop it to $20. But it's most likely that plan isn't eligible for promos like that. So instead of $25 monthly which I'm very willing to do, it goes to $40. I'm already happy with my $20 monthly prepaid plan.
Seems like a good phone but I'm ok. I'm content with my Z Flip 3 and Razr 5G. I want to keep my monthly bills as inexpensive as possible. An extra $20 x 36 still equates to $720 or $240 extra per year. I don't necessarily need a third foldable flip phone.

I've voted "not for me" but not because I'm not onboard with the concept, i have a problem with the execution. In fact, i am typing from Motorola RAZR 5G. It's my second and it takes precedent using it over my Iphone. I got my brother one... who's also using an iPhone. I'm not onboard with the size of this things. It's absolutely massive when open and defeats the purpose of being a clamshell. The RAZR 5G was already a bit big, but unlike all other manufacturers, had panache... Now new one it's a huge phone, folded, that will break on every side once dropped. From a design perspective, it's a bigger Galaxy Flip which considering the internal hardware...well, cameras specifically, I'd rather go for Samsung iteration. So Motorola...one step forward, two steps back. They were ahead to go back and copy everyone else again.

I don't understand why Motorola put a smaller primary camera sensor and USB-C 2.0 for the 40 Ultra. While the bigger battery gives a better endurance rating, I don't think it's a worthy upgrade over last year's predecessor.
The vanilla 40 looks like a promising buy on paper, but Motorola need to work their optimization magic for the Samsung-fabricated 7 Gen 1 SoC.

hmm, 04 Jun 2023You can always buy headphones that have the type-c plug or ... morei don't do those usb-c plug-ins. the extra bulk sticking out means it is more likely to get snagged on things and become a real annoyance.

The 22:9 aspect ratio is a deal-breaker for me, I already didn't like the 21:9 on the Flip 4

It's awesome but my pick is the vanilla RAZR. Motorola is yet to proof itself they give proper customer support and time updates....my Edge 30 ultra 10 months later is still running android 12. Unexcusable

Meh! I have no interest on folding phones what so ever. and looking these two and would have to pic one maybe the "vanilla" one is better, but anyway i would bet my money on solid normal phone that would last me for 3 years and i'm pretty sure these folding ones will be broken less than a year in my regular use

I want to see the endurance rating of this phone first. If it’s to my liking, I’ll wait for the price to drop a few times before I pounce on it.

Bob, 04 Jun 2023even if i did prefer one i can't get any because no 3.... moreYou can always buy headphones that have the type-c plug or get the converter that is 3.5mm to usb type c.
I got me Poco F5 for the reason that it had the 3.5mm jack and if it would of not have it then i would of went with Poco X5 Pro for the SD778 and 3.5mm jack.
I would like to have a flip phone for it's size in folded state to fit in my pockets and i dont need to buy cloths by there pockets size. But this Razr 40 is insane expensive. Looks like budget middle class hardware on everything but cost same as flagships as over 800 euro.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 cost 739 euro in my market for 256GB storage version and it's cheaper then the Razr 40 while looks pretty much same and still have better hardware on performance part. With Razr it's basically you pay for the brand name and stock android half of the phone price

Anonymous, 04 Jun 2023Razr 40 is better deal.
7g1 has bad reputation because... moreSD 7 Gen 1 just is nothing special. It's around same as SD778 that is in a phones that cost 300 euro. Vivo X Flip sadly wont come to Europe probably and is at same price as Razr 40 while have larger outer screen, SD 8+ gen 1, Zeiss branded cameras and a bit larger battery with also a bit faster charger.
Razr 40 price should be at most maximum 600 euro and even then i would think it's a bit expensive. How can Vivo have flagship ship in the phone with large screen on the outside of the phone and branded cameras on them while cost same as Razr 40 that is middle class chip and pretty much no screen on the outside that is mostly for only like clock and notifications. It's basically what you would expect on budget phones

Neither, but if I had to pick one: Razr+.
Mrwhosetheboss pointed it out with his video about the downfall of mobile gaming. They haven't improved graphically because most phones are packed with a weak chip that hasn't improved much the last 10 years.
Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 is only on par to a 855 from 4 years ago. I checked nanoreview.net on it comparing it to a 865. There is no direct comparison between 855 vs. 7 Gen 1 but the numbers are close if 855 is being compared to 865.
Mid-range specs don't age well. I would only get the vanilla Razr if priced $500 or below. It's faster than my Razr 5G but has a smaller cover display than my Z Flip 3. It really doesn't replace either one. The Razr+ can replace both.
The best outer displays still comes from the book-style ones since it isn't shaped like a small square. It's not half a slab. The best outer displays from foldables are the Find N & N2 and Pixel Fold. Apps aren't built to be viewed in a square.
