Anonymous, 06 Jun 2023You can order the 15-inch Air today, starting from $1,299 (... moreapple's main market and where they get the biggest sales isn't low-income/purchasing power countries.

here (somewhere in East Asia) nearly every student I see in my university (and even back in high school) has an iphone and ipad/macbook. same in the USA, Korea, Japan, China and other high-income economies where the currency is strong enough that most middle-class people can afford Apple and other expensive products easily.

the world is a very unfair place; products are being sold for the same price everywhere but $1000 in the Balkans/India/SE Asia/other weaker economies is like $10,000 in the USA.

I looked up the RAM and storage markups. Absolutely disgusting. Apple is the king of these markups, let me explain below.

They want $200 for an additional 8GB of RAM. An additional 8GB of DDR5 SODIMM (laptop) RAM is about $20, perhaps even a bit less. With DDR4, it's only $10-15 This is a 1000% markup, going by DDR5.

They want another $200 for an additional 256GB of storage. Going from a 256GB to 512GB SSD costs literally $10-$15. This is a 1500% markup.

Dont want to be rude but buying litterary students notebook for students work for 1200 is a bit steep.
Any windows notebook for 300 eur will preform the same and person will have 800-900 more for nice hollidays and vacation.
Paying 1200 for something worth maybe 300 is a bit off i mean really stupid decision.
For 1200 anyone can buy something like gaming laptop whitch 10 times more power and specs.
I really wonder what apple is thinking by selling 8GB ram laptop for 1200. If for 1500 windows powered laptops with 32GB ram and I5 or Ryzen 5 CPU can be bought new and with something like Geforce 3070 RTX.
This really makes no sense but i adore for apple for trying to scam its customers making them complete fools.

Releasing anything with only 8GB RAM in 2023 should be fined by the EU comission. Typical Apple.

It's even bigger than the MacBook Pro 14" and it's cheaper - it's like iPhone 11 series.

                            Oh wait, the same processor...

Not even a numpad? Yikes. Let's see if it also has the embarassing throttling the early M2 Air had, that was just pathetic to look at but everybody forgot already.

Apple's education price is a nice favor and I really love my MBP13 M1, but I can not imagine how is a Mac a real solution as a study PC.

Most popular educational and CAD softwares are not available to MAC OS, especially to Apple Silicon or even if there are some, they are far inferior to Windows version (yes, looking at you MS Office and AutoCAD..)

In my country, a refurbished 14-inch MBP with 10C CPU/16C GPU M1 Pro costs LESS than this brand new 15-inch MBA, at the same storage and RAM configuration - Its value is astonishingly bad unless you get it at a very steep discount, or just wait for the refurbished version to come out.

Definitely a solid choice for anyone who needs a silent machine with a big screen in a very slim chassis, but the price has to be a lot lower than this.

In India, it is so *cheap* that I will buy for every member of my family; and that too 2-2.. Price point of apple is so *fair* and attractive.

A year ago, Apple released the 13 M2, and now they are offering people to buy the «NEW» 15 M2, which is already outdated and too expensive for its ridiculous specifications)))))
